Sharing an unedited snippet from my newest WIP, Amnesia Bradley Canon AU (name to be decided):

It's a whirlwind of activity from the moment it becomes clear just how much time —how many years— Bradley can't recall. At Bradley's insistence, his uncles are called in —and he can't help but watch the way the stranger's, Jake's, eyes go wide and alarmed at the names Bradley drops. Though he's not sure if it makes him feel better that the nurse's eyes also widen in surprise as well. But it's something that niggles at the back of his mind, watching the way Jake seems to close up. The way his face goes carefully blank, the way he retracts his hand from where he'd been carefully keeping it touching some part of Bradley's bed, since he couldn't, wouldn't, outright touch Bradley. Not after Bradley had flinched from his touch. Though Bradley had wanted to say it was just because he'd been surprised by it. No one really touched him outside of his family. So he hadn't expected it. But he wouldn't let any of the words slip out, keeping his lips clamped shut tightly as he watched a range of emotions flitter over the man's face before it went not quite blank but damn near enough to it. He didn't know why but Bradley felt something tug at his chest at the sight.

Music Producer Bradley x Rancher Jake

Hey hey, I've been MIA for a week now because I have the flu so, this is great to see. Hope I did it justice for you!

~Alastor~

-he has a reputation to uphold, so he doesn't want to be seen caring for someone with the flu. However, he cares a whole lot about you. He can make this work.

-he goes out to a store and picks up the closest he can find to cold medicine, a weighted blanket for your sore muscles and lots of snacks that won't upset your flu any more than it is.

-when he's back he'll turn on a radio show for you to fall asleep to. He'll be less touchy than usual, he doesn't want to get sick as well. But he'll sit on the couch with you and make sure you're comfy.

-she's a very dapper woman and only wants the best for her clients. You're her best friend though, and a faithful client to boot, so when you call her canceling your new clothes fitting appointment because you're sick, she tells you to come in anyway, promising a surprise.

-when you arrive at her boutique it's empty. It even has a closed sign on the door. But Rosie lets you in, placing you on the couch in the back of her boutique. She starts by giving you some comfortable clothes to change into, followed by a dose of cold medicine and some peppermint tea to soothe your sore throat. She says she wants you to get some sleep because she's concerned about you. You comply and take a nap in her boutique, the cold medicine already making you sleepy.

"Nat! Nat!" Jake calls in a panic. "What do you mean you let some jackass watch Princess? Natasha, who did you leave my child with?" "Bagman." Jake finds himself coming almost to stand at attention at Nat's tone of voice. "First off, Bradley isn't a random jackass, he's a friend. Secondly, it wasn't like I had a whole lot of options for Peach. Thirdly, she's not yours, she's ours. And lastly, Bradley was not only literally my only option, but also my first." Jake takes a breath and rolls his shoulders. He knows he shouldn't be mad at Nat. It wasn't like either of them really had control over emergency deployments being in the Navy and all. But shit, couldn't she have at least let him meet the guy that was apparently her first choice for watching Princess Peach, the Dachshund they'd adopted the year before divorcing. Not to mention, he didn't even know if this Bradley even knew how to take care of dogs! "And besides, Bradley has two dogs of his own, so he definitely knows what he's doing." Or Jake guesses, he knew something. "How do you even know this guy?" Jake bit back the urge to snap when Nat let out a huff of mocking laughter. "I met him through Shelley." Jake immediately felt his hackles rise again. Shelley. The demon woman, who had nearly ruined Nat's career during their short lived marriage. "What?!" He asks flatly. "Nat! Nat!" "I'm sorry, I didn't know where else to go," Bradley says, quiet and broken. He figures he most look a sight —a pathetic, broken sight he's sure— which is why Shannon Seresin waves him in, guiding him through the house and up a flight of stairs with her small hand on his back. "Come on, sugar," Shannon murmurs as they go. "Lets get you showered. Then we'll see about getting some good food in your belly." She clucks her tongue, a small shake of her head. "You been loosing weight. I don't like that, sugar, I don't like that at all." Bradley doesn't bother trying to protest. Just lets Shannon guide him into a well lived in room, towards an in suit bathroom. She runs him through real quick how to work the set up before promising to be back real quick with some towels and a change of clothes for him. He stands there, numb and flat. He flicks his eyes to the still open door, to the shower and back again. Tells himself to count down from thirty before he turns the water on. Which he does, staring at the door, waiting for her return. And she does when he's gets down to two. "There's some spare soaps and what not below the sink, sugar. You use which you like best. Here's a towel, and some of Jakey's old things. Should fit you decent enough till we get you're bag outta that rental." Shannon smiles, soft and motherly. And just looking at it, at her, makes Bradley want to break down once again. To rage at the unfairness of it all. To scream and through things. It's unfair he'd been unknowingly talked into cutting this woman, this family, this love and worry, out of his life.
