My new 2015 Nissan Leaf 🍃 out and about. Totally electric so no gas, oil, water, spark plugs, timing belt, or anything needed for a mechanical engine ever again. Things that need eventual replacing for maintenance are tires and battery. The head lights are LEDs so not sure about those. Feels like a space shuttle at first, high tech and whisper quiet! It had 27,000 miles on it and was $12,000 (13 when all was said and done). My payments are small. If I got it new I could have prob joined a program that does a rebate/tax write off thing and free charging for a year but that's ok. A full charge can take you 109 miles but since chargers are not everywhere if you're doing about 50miles and coming home you need a charging plan in case you use more power than expected (like high speeds, hills, cranking heat). It does better in town/stop and go traffic because it regains power from coasting and braking. There are 3 levels of charging- 1. Plug in your home outlet. that charges slower, takes about 10-12 hours to go full charge from nothing so most people do this when they sleep. It adds to your electric bill but not much. Level 2- general charging stations. Some are free like the one at Warwick mall, Mohegan sun, Nissan dealerships, Groton library/townhall, and Misquamicut state beach and can take you to full charge in 4hrs if you were empty. Foxwoods has these and level 3s but charges 50 cents an hr plus 15 cents per kw used. Recently my car was there for 5.5 hrs and the cost was $5.25. Not bad for the equivalent of distance 4 gal. Of gas would take you. For around $500 you can have one of these installed in your garage. Level 3 is quick charging which my car could have had the capacity for but alas hadn't been selected for. These chargers seem slightly rarer around here but can do a full charge in 30 mins so perfect for road trips and saving time in general if you got places to go with some distance. I wish I had one. Oh well 😢. My cars color is glacier Arctic white and I've yet to name it (although I am leaning toward Baymax). #nissanleaf #newcar (at Misquamicut State Beach)
