El Sarnoso es un volcán extinto del pleistoceno medio que se ubica en la parte sur del Parque Nacional Puyehue, al suroeste del lago ParaÃso. Si bien no es de las cumbres más altas del sector, es plenamente identificable debido a su imponente silueta rocosa. El Sarnoso tiene 1662 m.s.n.m y fue un estrato volcán que ha sido fuertemente afectado por erosión glaciar. Por el Sur presenta dos conos de piroclastos y flujos de lava basáltica y está ligado al Complejo Volcánico Antillanca.
El paisaje floral es de selva valdiviana, se observa la presencia de bosques de ulmo y coihue acompañado de olivillo y tineo. El sotobosque es muy abundante en arbustos, lianas helechos, musgos y lÃquenes, que dan origen a una gran riqueza florÃstica. A mayor altura se presenta el bosque de tepa y mañÃo acompañado de grandes coihues, especie que a mayor altura pasa a ser la especie predominante.
Sarnoso is an extinct Middle Pleistocene volcano located in the southern part of Puyehue National Park, southwest of Lake ParaÃso. Although it is not among the highest peaks in the area, it is easily recognizable thanks to its striking rocky silhouette. Sarnoso reaches an elevation of 1,662 meters above sea level and was once a stratovolcano that has been heavily shaped by glacial erosion. On its southern flank, two pyroclastic cones and basaltic lava flows can be found, and the volcano is geologically linked to the Antillanca Volcanic Complex.
The surrounding landscape belongs to the Valdivian temperate rainforest, characterized by ulmo and coihue trees, accompanied by olivillo and tineo. The understory is dense, with abundant shrubs, vines, ferns, mosses, and lichens, creating a highly diverse plant community. At higher elevations, tepa and mañÃo forests appear, accompanied by large coihue trees, which become the dominant species with increasing altitude.
