One great thing the Thrawn 2017 does is set him up as a Tactical Genius who is a bit Naive in political matters because he’s a believer in competence above all. Despite every obstacle, though a combination of sheer competence and some friends he manages to get all the way to the top in record time. Whatever his motivations have been, he’s perfectly set to acheive his higher goals, which must surely be something special…..
Then at the end when he’s confronting Nightswan it’s revealed that he’s legitimately a compete fucking moron on the level of Grand Strategy, who somehow after years of dealing with the corrupt, incompetent, and stupid empire, has still managed to Lesser Evil himself into being a supporter of the Empire’s Fascism, because he thinks that whole mess he’s just waded through will somehow prevent more chaos than it causes.
It’s one of the reasons he’s such a great character I love it. Yes he’s very smart, but he’s also an idiot with the worst plan ever

(Just in case, there are new people to these series like me, this post has minor spoilers for the Thrawn 2017 book, and for season 1, EP. 6 of the clone wars)
Yo, okay so, I've started watching the clone wars recently, and there was this one scene in an early episode with Anakin and friends fighting vulture droids on Grevious' ship, and at first I was like oh whatever man, they got this.
But the shots that I saw of them before the fight scene had perspectives that hid their true size...
So, then they drop down from the ceiling like...
Holy HECK
These things are frickin MASSIVE
I knew they were called "droid fighters" or whatever. But I didn't know they were THE SIZE of a fighter ship?!
I thought they were like buzz droid size or like twice a buzz droid size for some reason?
When I read Thrawn and he had his buzz droids, and then Nightswan had like the vulture droids during the Umbara mission, I thought it would be cool to do an artistic rendition of them with their droids.
They each had an iconic clone wars droid that they used and I could use it as a symbol or whatnot.
But I see this episode and now I'm realizing that it wouldnt be exactly what I'd originally pictured.
Here's Thrawn with his buzz droid, right? About as big as an astromechs head like we see in revenge of the sith. So lovely, too pure for this world ❤️
And then we have a crazy man with an army of these HUGE fricking fleet-eating machines
Definitely not cute little scary guys like I thought... BIG scary.
