Nie Huaisang returned quietly to his already quiet apartment with a bag full of scrap. It had been a successful scavenging trip, but he still had not found exactly what he had been searching for. He knew it was somewhere in the city, but the city was vast and deep.
He removed his headgear from over his eyes and blinked a few times to adjust and see the apartment for what it was, not all the other information that was unnecessary at the moment.
He dropped his bag by the door and sighed. Nothing had changed in the time he had been away. Not that he had expected it to, but sometimes he hoped. That hope was a silly thing, despite his occasional indulgence.
He put the kettle on and went to his workshop/bedroom. It was a tiny apartment: a kitchen and bedroom with a small area that was neither and really couldn’t be much of anything.
Nie Mingjue was sitting on the bed, screwdriver in his mouth as he made an adjustment to his right elbow involving something that sparked the moment Nie Huaisang walked in. His left arm was next to him on the bed, which was something Nie Huaisang continuously advised against.
“Da-ge!” he huffed.
Nie Mingjue looked up at him, absolutely ridiculous with the screwdriver still in his mouth. He spat the screwdriver out, and it landed on the bed with a thump.
“And you’re getting oil on the sheets!”
Ever since I considered picking that one deleted wip back up, Huaisang has been hanging from my mental sleeves begging to be allowed to be a bit of a villain again.

💖 Which of your fics is your pride and joy?
The Prisoner of Jinlintai series. The first fic especially, as it was my first long fic for xuexiao and consumed my thoughts for months, but I also love the other two fics in the series - The Tamed finished off the story I felt quite nicely, I liked giving them a happy ending, and it remains my longest story ever, while I'm also pretty fond of the two OC guards who feature in the side story 😊
🤩 What's the most meaningful comment you've ever received?
It's hard to pick!! The comments I got on The Prisoner of Jinlintai were so lovely, they really helped to reassure and spur me on, which I needed as I both loved the fic and was anxious in case readers wouldn't like it. I remember one person's comment saying they could visualise it like an episode of The Untamed, and that was so amazing to hear.
But also I love the comment I got from valls_safanoria (😉) on Too Late For Turning Back, because it was the first (and probably only) time someone had written one so long that they ran out of characters and had to continue in a follow up comment 😂 plus it included this about Xue Yang:
"Will ANYONE come and assist this poor bloated boi who can't reach himself any longer? PLEASE???? X"
And I think that's one of the funniest things I've ever read in a comment on my work!
🔮What's your favorite plot twist you've ever written?
Hmm, maybe the identity of the black-clad stranger in The Consequences of Procrastination and the results of that reunion? 😉 Or the ending of Burning Love. Or the ending of Nepenthe!

🟥How long do you spend in edits?
It varies by fic. Some stories (like Love Bites and The Promise) just flowed out of me and I made hardly any edits. Others were a bitch lol. My latest fic, Shotgun Wedding, took 2 years from start to finish and a big chunk (maybe the last 4-5 months) was slow and frustrating editing. I am a bit lazy though - although I want my fics to be as good as they can be, there's only so much I can be fussed to do before shrugging and saying 'good enough' and shoving it out there, hoping readers forgive the mistakes and plot holes 😅
🎬One of your fics gets turned into a TV series. Which one is it and what network is it on?
Probably The Prisoner of Jinlintai, as it's the one with the most plot!! Re network - given the smut in it, I'll say HBO?! At least hopefully they would indulge us and not skip too fast through the smut scenes 😂
🎵Do you make playlists for your fics?
I don't make playlists for fics, but I have playlists for xuexiao and for Niecest generally, and I have written some stories each with a specific song in mind:

It's been a while since I read my own stories so I had to go digging and then I found a few bits I really like! So you've got multiple answers here, sorry...
Intro to Famous Last Words:
With a sigh, Song Lan got to his feet and wandered into the kitchen, put the kettle on and fished out their favourite mugs, searching the cupboard for a couple of teabags. There was no great rush; when Xingchen's brief beau had put his clothes back on and left, Xingchen would hop in the shower to scrub clean before joining Song Lan for their tea. This was their little Monday night ritual; Xingchen would have sex and then they'd have tea.

Song Lan paused the radio, listening carefully for a moment, then saved the document he had been working on and began to tidy up his desk, locking the sensitive files away again in the drawer. Then he wandered into the kitchen and began the usual ritual of making Xiao Xingchen's post-sex cup of tea. However, when he brought the tea out to the living room, the stranger's shoes were still by the door and there was no sign of Xiao Xingchen heading off to the shower. Song Lan frowned in surprise and put the cups down, and then his head snapped up and he twisted around to stare at the stairs in shock.
The bed had started creaking again!
From Too Late For Turning Back
The anger that had started to abate in his omega's willing embrace suddenly flared up when he felt that he was wet. He shoved a finger inside, making Xue Yang mewl, swirled the finger around and then pulled it out, holding it up to inspect it. Besides Xue Yang's clear, natural slick, his finger was coated in white semen.
Song Lan's face was tight with fury. He turned to Xue Yang, his eyes nearly popping, to find the omega looking back at him without an ounce of guilt.
"My alpha filled me up," Xue Yang explained with a casual shrug.

They had gone on like this for a while, living in a strange kind of fragile stasis. It was some time before Xiao Xingchen had realised with shock that he wanted to see Xue Yang again; that, devastatingly, he no longer missed Zichen’s sweet, tender lovemaking; that he craved Xue Yang’s violent affections. To his everlasting shame, he had sought him out and Xue Yang had welcomed him with glee. Every time they had had sex since, Xiao Xingchen hadn’t been able to allow himself to take an active role; he passively allowed Xue Yang to place him in whatever position he wanted, do whatever he pleased, use him however he liked. It pleased Xiao Xingchen most when Xue Yang tied him up; then, he supposed, at least he could pretend that he’d had no choice.
From The Taste of Rain on Skin:
This was his favourite Xiao Xingchen, the one whose breath heaved in his chest not only from the effort but from the exhilaration of the hunt, the one whose cheeks were tinted pink with pleasure while his sword ran red with blood.
I also love almost everything about The Promise, especially the bedroom confrontation and reconciliation scenes (which aren't even smutty! 😄) I am loving creating for Niecest right now!!

📕How do you feel about people printing your fics?
AMAZED AND DELIGHTED!!!! I received a printed copy of one of my fics from a dear friend (😉) and honestly had to try not to cry from happiness. And knowing someone has printed my story so they can keep it and reread it whenever they want, because they like it THAT MUCH - that blows me away ❤️😍🥰❤️😍🥰
👀 Would you ever accept requests or commissions?
Yes, I would - but not a blanket acceptance of anything and everything. I'd be happy to receive ideas/requests and would do my best to fulfill them if accepted, but would reserve the right to decline if it's not something I'm comfortable or interested in writing.
🐸 If you incorporated your OTP into a Disney movie plot, which would it be?
My initial thought was Sleeping Beauty, because, you know, Xue Yang trying for years to awaken Xiao Xingchen. But then I changed my mind. I have a bunch of fic ideas in a notes app going back years and I remembered that a looong time ago I jotted down the idea of doing a xuexiao Beauty & the Beast fic - obviously Xiao Xingchen as the beautiful, kind, clever and quirky Beauty and Xue Yang as the terrifying Beast. And I particularly like that as the Disney song lyrics resound in my head and I feel like they suit Xue Yang's situation very well - 'Bittersweet and strange / finding you can change / learning you were wrong'... (Except maybe Xue Yang never consciously learns...)
But if it was Niecest... then Frozen 😄
💯 What rating do you enjoy writing the most? Gen Audiences, Teen, Mature, or Explicit? How many fics at that rating do you have?
As I usually write for couples, I've not done loads of Gen. The majority of my fics are Explicit (35 out of 69!) so I guess that's what I enjoy writing most?! 😂 Though sometimes it's nice to take a break from hardcore smut and write a Teen or at most Mature rated fic 😂
😁What makes you happiest? New fic comments, kudos, bookmarks, user subscribers, story subscribers, or Tumblr asks?
All of it is amazing. I cherish every single kudos, bookmark etc. The fact that people are reading my stories and not immediately closing the tab, but actually finishing it and liking it enough to engage a little (or a lot!) is always such a joy. But if I had to choose... I'd say maybe user subscriptions - because it means someone has liked what I've written so much that they want more from me - they even want to be NOTIFIED when I post - and not just any follow ups from one specific story, but ANYTHING I produce. That is amazing to me. And I think they're the rarest type of audience response I get, so it's like the holy grail 😂 (But also I love the individuality and interaction of comments. And love when people bookmark my stories because they want to read it again! And esp if they leave notes in their bookmarks! Basically everything lol. This is a hard question 😂)
🐎 Would you ever do a medieval or pirate au?
Maybe, if I get a good idea for it. Generally I prefer canon settings, but have surprised myself by getting unexpected ideas for aus (like one of my wips is a modern ballet xuexiao story 😄), so never say never!
🌷What's one of your fics that isn't as popular, but you hold dear?
I'd say Waste Not, Want Not - I think this story is pretty tame but the slight cannibalism theme probably puts people off 😅 but I've always been fond of this story and think it does fit the characters quite well, I could see this happening.
