After a bit of an unofficial social media break and two days of catching up on sleep I ventured out to the NICU Reunion party. I love my job to begin with, but seeing my little ones grow and meet important milestones is a tremendous blessing! I also decided to debut my "Brave with every beat" shirt in honor of Emma, my friend @bnwdance's little girl who has a heart condition and, had she been born here in the US, would have been an NICU graduate as well. My baby's hospital is having a NICU reunion and I can't wait! Do you think it's possible to be too excited about it? Part of me thinks it's a bit odd that I want to be back in a place that has caused so much pain. Part of me feels like I'm going home. How about that the NICU feels like home. What will make this event the best is seeing the baby's primary nurse again. I didn't get to say goodbye when he was discharged. Every time I think about it I want to cry. I'm so sad that I didn't see her that day. She would have been so excited and proud. She would have shouted it from the roof that baby was coming home. Next to me she was Julian's biggest advocate. I'm amazed how much nurses do - especially in the NICU. This nurse took care of me as well. They don't get paid enough for all the emotional crazy parents they have to deal with everyday. We're insane. While I lay in bed not sleeping I compose a letter to Julian's nurse. Of course I never actually write it. I don't even know what to really say. I don't have the right words to tell her how important she is to me. Sometimes I feel like she knows me better than anyone because she walked through the NICU with me. I hope she's at the reunion. I suppose I should send that note and ask her to go to the reunion.
