Summary: Being married to an orc isnāt easy in a world still clinging to prejudice. But you and Nick love each other deeply, and youāve never backed down from anyoneās judgment.
The grocery store wasnāt usually a battlefield.
But today, it felt like one.
You were minding your business, just buying fresh fruit and milk while Nick wandered off to check out the teas.
He loved trying new ones lately, especially the cinnamon blends. You had no idea how orcs handled spice, but somehow he always came back with bags that smelled like baked apples and campfire smoke.
Thatās when you heard them.
The sharp tone. The bitter laugh. The deliberate hush that wasnāt a hush at all.
You didnāt need to guess who they were talking about.
"How does she even look at him and not flinch? His face looks like it was carved with a chainsaw."
"I heard orcs donāt even feel love, itās all instinct. She probably doesnāt even realise it."
"Honestly? Probably just some weird kink. I mean, have you seen the size of him?"
You turned around.
Three women.
All perfectly put together, identical acrylic nails and matching sneers. You werenāt one to pick fights, but this wasnāt the first time youād heard whispers. Being a human woman married to an orc was enough to turn every supermarket aisle into a gauntlet.
But today?
Today you were tired of silence.
"Heās kinder than any man Iāve ever met," you said.
They blinked.
All three heads whipped toward you like hens startled in the coop.
"What?"
You took a step closer, calm but unflinching. "Nick is smart. Gentle. Funny. He volunteers with kids. He brings me flowers for no reason. And he listens to me when Iām upset instead of trying to fix everything like some white knight with a saviour complex."
One of them scoffed. "Okay, but still, you really-"
You didnāt let her finish.
"Youāre just jealous because your husbands canāt compete. Especially not in the size department."
Silence.
Absolute, stunned silence.
You could have heard an apricot drop.
One woman choked on her gum. Another opened her mouth, closed it again, and simply stared. The third looked like her soul had just left her body.
And behind you, you heard it, the faint, startled sound of your husband trying desperately not to burst out laughing.
Nick walked up beside you, tea bags in hand, ears tipped slightly pink, but his chest puffed out with pride like a knight in battle-worn armour.
"Sweetheart," he said, voice rumbling with affection and awe, "that mightāve been the hottest thing youāve ever said."
You slipped your arm through his.
"They donāt matter," you murmured, just loud enough for the trio to hear. "Only we do."
He looked at you, heart in his eyes.
"I promise Iāll speak up more," he said softly. "About us. About me. I let too many people treat me like I donāt matter, but you never do. You make me feel like I deserve everything."
"You do," you whispered. "You always have."
As you turned to leave, arm in arm, Nick dropped a single look back at the gaping women.
"By the way," he added with a casual shrug, "sheās not exaggerating."
The tea bags rustled in the awkward quiet as you both walked away, laughing.

you work in a diner. It's not a big one, but it's running.
you are in charge of a small but efficient team. The boss as the chef, one cook, one kitchen assistant. You work at the front with two waiters.
recently a new waitress arrived and is still in training. She's 19 years old and trying to make extra money to help her parents pay for her tuition fees. She's not quite confident yet, but she's doing great.
then a Karen enters the diner.
everything is good at first, but as the order is prepared, the woman notes that the young waitress... is an orc.
soon, a solid racist argument occurs, which you try to reason, without success.
the obnoxious woman is now standing up in the middle of the room, threatening to call the cops for "illegal hiring".
customers are all looking, some unable to make a noise, others arguing with her.
and you are not having it anymore.
"You wanna call the cops ? Please. Please go for it."
your sweet waitress doesn't know where to put herself and it hurts you to see her like that. She did nothing wrong but to exist, and doesn't deserve that.
the call to the cops is made and after very long minutes and way too much slurs, a car arrives at the coffee shop and someone enters.

Some time ago I read a pretty good smut fic about this ship, and it was so good that I wrote two extended scenes of the fic, though I never shared them on the internet.
Anyway, if you like well written cute and spicy short stories (6k words one shot), and if you ship these two or find any of them adorable and hot, don't pass on this fic!

Nick is such a sweet character (and he is so hot!), and Tikka was cute (hot too). They are so shippable. I wanted that stupid bad movie to have a sequel only to have more of these two!
I saw bright for the first time 2 days ago and now Iām obsessed with Jakoby <3
9:00pm
The typing on my computer became more and more irritating, my leg bounced impatiently as my report felt like it was becoming longer and longer even though it was just an assault case at a gas station, some guy coked up on fairy dust, thankfully only left scratches, being an EMT is stressful enough.
Busting through my office, one of my EMTās abruptly commandsĀ āWe gotta go now! Domestic attackā I dropped my pen and laced up my belt swiftly. As the ambulance was packed me hoped in and sped off,Ā āhey, you got a hair tie?ā I asked slightly turning my head from the wheel.
āYeah, hereā she handed me the tieĀ āWhat happened at the scene?ā I hope itās nothing serious, I donāt know If I could handle it right now, with my bills starting to pile up, finishing school and needing to get rid of the stack of paper work on my desk, It feels like the bones at the arch of my back are melting.
Quickly making a right turn and reaching for my intercomĀ āAre the cops at the crime scene yet?ā there was scratchy responseĀ āNo, you should meet there at the same timeā I uttered a thank you and pointed to the back of the ambulanceĀ āGet the bag ready for head traumaā.
When we arrived, a cop car pulled up quickly and two tall men stepped out, a tall black man and a slightly shorter Orc, wait... Orc? How the fuck did they let an Orc into the police force!? Shut up and focus! Thereās a hurt woman inside, just let the police escort us inside to help so we can all go home.
I jump out the back with the small medical bag,Ā āYou!ā I pointed to the black man, quickly catching his attentionĀ āYou come with me to the front, Orc you take backā they stopped in their tracks with a questioning lookĀ āYour telling us what to do?ā the human guy asked. I was already half way up the walk way,
ādo you two want to sit here crying with your thumbs up your asses all night or do you want to save this girl?ā The human looks at the Orc and he just shrugs and runs to the back, pistol and flashlight drawn.
I quickly read the officerās name tag, Ward, I followed behind him to the door. His fist pounded the door in urgency, even though it was a loud knock, it was pitch black and dead silent on the inside.
āMaybe it was a false call?ā Ward says,Ā āOr maybe heās keeping her quiet? Or maybe he already got her and heās gone? Or-āĀ āalright alright- I get itā He quickly draws his gun, and tried the knob. Nothing.Ā āStep back sweetheartā I snarled my teeth at his pet name and my stomach soured.
He speaks into his intercomĀ āHey Jakoby, no oneās answering the door, Iām persistingāĀ ā10-4, coming through backā, he kicks the door in, small pieces of wood falling as the door flies open. He looks back at meĀ āStay in arms reachā I quickly nod and we enter the dark house.
