Making friends in fandom is awesome - but it also makes me hesitant to post the really weird stuff.

I feel this soooo deeply! I also tend to enjoy reading freaky ahh stuff but I’m not really good at writing it (at least not yet). But I kid you not, I’ve read the weirdest most unsettling shit in the last ~10 years of reading Fanfiction. So everytime I see an author hold back with their ideas It makes me a little sad for them.

In my humble opinion fanfic was never meant to be something that the broad mass liked. Ofc there are themes that get more traffic BUT it actually always was a place for the weirdos, the freaks, the outcasts.

Back to the words of @ami-gami - I get it though, 100%.

Sometimes I wanna leave kudos on AO3 or repost a story that has some content that is not widely seen and I tend to hesitate. What if one of my mutuals sees that I left kudos on THIS? What if someone slides into my DMs or sends an anon and starts harassing me bc of smth I wrote or reposted?

So for me the „shame“ aspect is one thing but there’s also straight up harassment. We’ve seen it in the past multiple times where people got straight up death threats bc of a FANFIC IDEA! You guys, we‘re talking about something FICTIONAL!! Don’t like it? Don’t read it!

It could be so goddamn easy but no we put ourselves on a moral highground all the time and judge others for the fictional stories they enjoy writing or reading.
