Wolverine Super Moon
An eastbound Amtrak train number 252, a Wolverine, is speeding through Galesburg, Michigan. The moon is just past full (at 99.7% illumination).
The town of Galesburg is just east of Kalamazoo on the former Michigan Central Railroad, part of the New York Central System.

This stunning photo of Grand Central's before it opened in 1913 really brings the Termina's grandeur alive. The ramp connected the main concourse to lower-level suburban concourse – one of many innovative features throughout the terminal, allowing passengers with luggage or with disabilities to easily travel between levels. The chandeliers seen hanging above the ramp are adorned with oak leaves and acorn motifs – a symbol seen all around the terminal representing the Vanderbilt family, who financed the Terminal. The photograph was taken in 1913 before the opening of the Terminal to the public. Today is Memorial Day—an annual day of remembrance to honor all those who have died in service to the United States during peace and war. Army hospital trains flourished during World War II. Two years before America’s entry into the war, the U.S. Army began building enhanced hospital unit cars, equipped with side doors to facilitate patient loading and compact operating rooms. The olive drab unit cars measured 85 feet in length and could accommodate a physician, two nurses, four enlisted men from the Medical Corps, and 38 patients. A railroad passenger representative rode each hospital train. Metro North From the Bear Mountain Bridge
In the first image the train is between Manitou and the bridge, with Sugarloaf visible in the distance. In the second photograph, with the train going away, one can see Peekskill in the distance.
Just looked up the locomotive here: it's a Siemens SC-42DM in charge of the train. This is the model that will be replacing the General Electric P32AC-DMs over time. In the spirit of the time-comparison diptychs, I do have a shot of a Metro North train powered by FL9s at the same spot as the second image here.
This long stretch along the east side of the Hudson River makes up a portion of New York Central's Water Level Route, which is another theme of this series of posts.

Coming & Going: Twenty-five Years Apart
Southbound trains arrive at, and depart from, Hudson, New York. The before and after images were made twenty five years apart.
As in some of my previous posts, I've mentioned being on the so-called Water Level Route of the New York Central. I should explain...
The NYC competed with the Pennsylvania Railroad between New York and Chicago: the Pennsy had a more direct route through the Keystone State (via Harrisburg, Horseshoe Curve, and Pittsburgh) but was slower given curvature and grade. Famous trains on the competing lines were the 20th Century Limited (NYC) and the Broadway Limited (of the Pennsy). In the end it was a wash, with both railroad's premier trains making the run in fifteen hours.

Along the Water Level Route
This is an eastbound Amtrak's Maple Leaf rolling through Palatine Bridge, New York. We're on the former New York Central along side the Mohawk River (part of the railroad's so-called Water Level Route).
