If they were truly bored or were asked constantly, they would do the sorting and said they aren't official since they don't have the hat of Sorting. They also were a bit put off that a hat decided their house until realizing that they use a magical house decoration to sort students in dorms.

Teaching Patronus, they may do experiment with a few of the third years and second years to figure out a off brand spell to do it as the others grumble or put about how they can't do it yet due to the amount of power and stamina needed.

Newt!Mc is a vegetarian. Since they take care of magical creatures, i felt that they would be awkward eating meat. Because they see all animals as their friends

The manual(s) are a pretty fun read. Full of witty dialogue and useful on finding out the needs of their creatures. It’s a gives a good laugh after grieving for their friend whose secret sassiness still lives on after death.

I think Rook would read them all to learn more about your creatures while coping with the lost of his dear friend. Perhaps if he decided to travel the world and make more creature manuals while dedicating to Newt!MC.

(MC keeps the eggshell bits of whatever occamy has already hatched for this reason. They probably give them to Sam to make a good profit for hair. Now Vil and Crewel are interested)

Also I’m surprised that Kneazles or thestrals haven’t come up yet.

Newt!MC has a very protective kneazle (or half-cat/half-kneazle like Crookshanks) that they’ve had since they were 11. She has hissed and scratched most of the NRC students that mean harm to her owner. Both Lucius and Grim have heart eyes for the kneazle.

For thestrals: some people are confused when they see MC and a couple of students petting the air. Then they realize that food in MC’s hand is disappearing because the thestrals are eating it.

Puffskeins and pygmy puffs are a favourite of NRC and RSA second to the nifflers. (I don’t know if you’re MC lives in the 1920s or not though. If they do, pygmy puffs don’t exist until the late 1990s made by the Weasley twins)
