Summer is such a little tease lately. And New Swears' debut album Funny Isn't Real, recorded in the mythologized Fun Boy Club House, is one to put you in the mood for the stupid hot summer nonsense to come. Comprised of a bunch of anthems for snot-nosed Centertown party kids, this one is good filthy fun. Check out the video for the insanely catchy 'See You In Hull', reppin' Ottawa's proximity to Quebec deps, with their extended hours and cheap beer.
Tune into tomorrow's Debaser on CKCU 93.1 FM from 2-3 PM for loud low-fi fun in the garage with New Swears, Robin and the Hairy Bats, The Silver Skeleton Band, and The Doozies. Before that, slip into a shoegaze dream with Toronto's Beliefs and Breeze, Ottawa's Roberta Bondar, and LA band Io Echo. Later on in the show, a thematic exploration into the Lynch-ian stylistic pastiche of weird synth and drum machine sounds that come from some selected Canadian musicians, including Open Channels, Baby Cages, Special Costello, Slim Twig, Jay Holy, and early Pink Mountaintops. Plus, experimental jazz punk spoken-word from Montreal band Notta Comet.
