I have a pretty big suspicion that NewRetroNet uses AI “art” 💔. It’s a seemingly popular clothing brand that sells synthwave/retro style clothing. The first time I saw their posts was on here, and it seems that the brand posts synthwave art to match the aesthetic of what they sell. When I first began to see the posts, I believed that they were original and hand drawn by someone who worked in the brand (or possibly made the art for them). While searching through NewRetroNet’s Instagram to see more of the “art”, I saw in one description of a post that the artist is “Studio NewRetro.Net”. That makes it sound like there are multiple people who create the art for the brand, but after close inspections on some of their recent posts on here, a lot of the “art” is AI generated. On a Reddit post from 244 days ago of someone asking where they could buy vaporwave style clothes, a part of the user’s post explains how people have warned that NewRetroNet is “a chinese dropshipping company with low quality products”. In the comments, the same user points out how the AI generated images was a “warning flag” and research online proves that the brand is dropshipping. Reviews for NewRetroNet on trustpilot.com have mixed reviews. I saw people saying how the shoes are cheap and their order took a month to arrive, another person lost their order, customer service stops responding or doesn’t respond, and the quality is poor. On the good reviews, NewRetroNet replies with the same copy and pasted message (interesting). On NewRetroNet’s website, they are also selling the AI art. I haven’t looked deeper into NewRetroNet and if people have had any issues with buying from them or have called the brand out (besides the Reddit post and what I have currently discovered). I cannot do much (or anything) about this very popular brand and the fact that they use AI, have low quality items and don’t respond to complaints but I would at least like to try and spread this around to notify on what the brand is doing.
