Often friends ask me 'between London and Paris, which would you enjoy spend your holiday in?' My answer would definitely be Paris. It is a grand, opulent and proud city with immense history that is well preserved in her buildings, her food, her people and her aura. Let’s just say, Paris has as the Parisians say ‘Je ne sais quoi’, that quality that we can feel its presence and existence but we simply cannot put into words. One of the many reasons I love Paris is the air fare is relatively cheap. Let me put it this way; Tokyo is 5,324 kilometres from Kuala Lumpur. Paris is 10,417 kilometres from Kuala Lumpur. Let’s say I want to book a flight to Paris from the January 5 and return on the 15, the air fare would be RM2,196 (Expedia). Same date, flight to Tokyo would be RM2,878 (Expedia). RM per kilometres, Paris is a value for money destination. For my first post on Paris, first tip. Find a hotel close to the main train station, Gare du Nord. This is a really huge station for trains and buses. We can take a train straight to Saint Pancras station in London from Gare du Nord. Convenient. From Gare du Nord, we can take buses and metro trains to anywhere in Paris. So I recommend highly book a hotel very near the main entrance of Gare du Nord and your ground travel is almost all set. By the way, Gare du Nord means north station in French. There are two (2) hotels right across the street from the main entrance of Gare du Nord: Hotel Richmond Gare du Nord (RM390 per night) and New Hotel Gare du Nord (RM430 per night); Grand Hotel Magenta (RM278 per night) is a few steps away. Not much. If you don’t mind that a bar is on the ground floor, there’s A La Pinte du Nord (RM262 per night). The price varies depending on the time of the year. You get the idea of the price of hotels around Gare du Nord.
