Apple and Goldman Sachs made an algorithm to do the garden variety stuff, you know - minimize risk, maximize return, make sure the bad 'apples' don't get a lot of credit to run up a bill... the regular stuff. Except turns out not all was rosy. In this case some rather rich men complained very publicly that their wives were getting a credit line that was much lower for no discernible reason aside from the difference in gender. Ridiculous and... yet another in a series. We are trying to undo a world that is built unfair, has been for centuries - this unfairness is embedded in everything, everything that produces data on which the algorithms are trained. Using the past to predict the future is like always trying to win the last war, or reproduce what has been - what has been is not where we want to go through, do we?
