Advice on how to Run 🏃♀️
1. Figure out how it fits into your schedule 🗓
You improve more when you run 15 minutes everyday, instead of just and hour on Friday. So know that a short run is better than no run. If your busy one day then don't be afraid to go on a 10 minute jog instead of a 25 run.
2. Shoes are important 👟
You need to get good shoes. I know not everyone can afford expensive running shoes, especially when it feels like you need new ones every month, but try to find shoes that make your feet feel good and fit your gate. Trust me it makes a world of difference.
3. Run Smarter not Harder 🧠
When you see these marathon runners you might think they go 20 miles every day, but that's not the case. Every runner has a variety of work outs that are different everyday. It can range from a 10-20 minute HIIT to Casual Weight Lifting to a 15 mile run. Set a training schedule so that different areas of your body get rest on different days.
4. Eat Well!! 🥕
Eat good food, but also enough food. So many people get into running so they get in shape, which is great. What's not great is the diets that they keep while running, like seriously you are only gonna eat 1,200 calories a day? You just burned 300 on your thirty minute run! Eat AT LEAST 1,500, or I swear to the running God I will throw a granola bar at you.
5. Find your Podcast or Playlist 🎵
If your running alone then a good podcast or playlist can really set apart a bad run from a great run. Personally I listen to screamo and hard rock so I am ALWAYS pumped to go kick some butt. Though some people like a nice podcast to distract them. Either way figuring out what to listen too can be really helpful on your runs. So have fun searching Spotify tonight.
6. Listen to your body 💪
If your leg is hurting then there is probably a reason. Try yoga that day or a light workout. Trust me, you lose a lot less of your gains by skipping one day as opposed to one month due to injury.
7. Have fun with it 😄
Running is not the be all end all of health and fitness. So if it doesn't work for you then don't think you have to do it to be healthy. Also don't think that you have to train for long distance if you find sprints fun. It's a hobby, not a punishment.
