Animal Instincts Take Over
We are all animas. But we have evolved. We have developed towns and communities. New technology has shaped our lives. We have created canoes to travel. We have made new ways of cooking rice and beef to nurture ourselves. We have composed new music for our festivals of light. But we are animals. We have taken and kept their nature and their instincts. When faced with dangerous situations we may let these instincts consume us. We may either fight the force or take flight from the force. I am a man so my natural instinct was to fight. All I knew was that someone was trying to harm my pearl. My hope. My family's future. So I attacked. Not caring that the rival was my own wife. I had secular vision. All I saw and knew in that moment was that someone tried to harm something that was mine. And the result was that I had harmed a precious love that was mine. My rage took over. I was animalistic. Under the moon, my emotion and passion drowned out my reason. I had to protect my precious pearl. My culture has the legend of a creature called the werewolf. Under the heat of the moon, a person may lose his humanity and give into the animalistic side of himself in the form of a wolf. Like the legend I took the likeness of a lion and a snake. I lost my humanity and attacked anything that threatened my newfound hope. And like these animals, I hungered. I thought the pearl was my satisfaction to this hunger for a better future for my son. Satisfaction to the hunger for a proper life with my Juana. I would not let anything destroy the means to my satisfaction. My want was honorable but in the process I let my beastly passions and instincts take over. No matter how civilized we humans make ourselves. In a moment of danger we let instincts take over. Because we are all animals.
