Yunho walked down the narrow streets in silence.
People around him were nothing but background noise, blur and vague silhouettes forgotten as soon as he passed them. The air smelled of rain and iron, a familiar scent that reminded him of what this part of town, now a city, once was.
Pulled by a cruel, magnetic force, he had to keep going. He knew what it was, the burning, urgent calling for him.
You.
After so long he finally was able to leave the forest where you had left him without a word, manyā many years ago.
Sensing he was getting closer, he stopped for a minute. His jaw clenched, tension building up in his stomach. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath, finding the even more familiar scent calling to him. His body trembled for a second but it was too late for second thoughts. He had come for one thing only, so close he could almost taste it.
Whether it will be his ruin or salvation, it really didn't matter.
He“s here.
Your heart started to race. You stood firmly inside the chapel, waiting for him to appear at any second. His power is stronger. You realized you had all these years to prepare, but so did he.
When Yunho appeared through the rusty door, into the ruins of the chapel, the sight of him struck you like lightning.
The years had hardened him, carved him into something sharper than the boy you once knew. Broad shoulders, eyes shadowed with hunger, veins carrying the restless pulse of the monster in his blood. He had become everything you fearedāand everything you still ached for.
You had left him without a word. Hollow, broken, drowning in his own rage and hatred. You both had been young back then, but you also loved each other with a love so fierce it ended up burning.
Yunho didnāt speak at first. Just looked at you like he could tear you apart and worship you in the same breath. You were ready for the anger and reproaching that was about to happen. You deserved all of it ā but none of that happened. Instead Yunho looked at you with pleading eyes, with sadness, and even tenderness. When he finally spoke his voice sounded rough, jagged, almost broken.
āYou abandoned me,ā he growled, not wasting any second on formalitties as he was getting closer in a second until you could almost taste the same air, heat colliding with heat. āAnd after all these years you decided to call me?ā Yunho was feeling so many things at the time. He needed rage to surge up and soothe the ache in his chest, before he gave in at the sight of you and how much he still loved you. āWhy am I here? Why after all these years of not being able to leave the forest⦠now I suddenly can't stop following this desire to come and find you.ā he continued. āYou are so cruel. You could have come back for me, but you just lifted whatever spell you trapped me in, and decided to let me roam around until I was the one coming back to you.ā
Silence settled and it was so thick it burned you. You wanted to say something but having him before you looking so angered and so broken was too much. You were stupid enough to think you would be able to handle it.
āWhy am I here?!ā he repeated. He was so close, close enough you could see the faint curve of his lips. Those sweet lips you kissed so many times before. Desire flared in you, as if no time had passed at all. āAre you going to kill me? Hurt me? Love me again? That is if you actually ever didā¦ā
You finally lift your gaze to meet his and your eyes sharpened at his last words. It felt like he had twisted a knife deep inside your stomach.
āI waited for so long and now you canĀ“t even speak to me⦠I deserve to know! I need to know why you left meā you don't know how bad it burned. Not being able to go look for you, not knowing why every time I was at the outskirts of the forest some invisible wall stopped me from going further. You were the one with the books and the spells and you were so clever as to leave with them. I was trapped, and aloneā¦ā
A few ravens flew by the cracks of what remained of the chapelĀ“s rooftop triggered by the echo of his voice. Yunho's eyes clouded with tears, he was fighting them. āI thought rage had brought me back to you,ā his voice low, trembling with years of held-back venom. āBut now that I see you⦠I donāt know anymore.ā
āYunhoā¦ā your voice breaking. āI left because you were changing. The part of you that isnāt human⦠it was waking. And if Iād stayed, you would have destroyed me, and then yourself.ā
He laughed, low and dark, closing the distance even more until you could feel the fire that burned inside him. āYou left me without a word. Do you know how many nights I dreamed of this? Of finding you? Of somehow... making you regret leaving me?ā His hand closed around your wrist, firmly. You noticed his claws, a remark that wasnĀ“t there when you left. He traced your pulse, sharp enough to sting, tender enough to feel like a caress.
You shivered. Not from fearābut from recognition.
āAnd now?ā You whispered. YunhoĀ“s eyes flickered as he leaned forward, lips brushing yours. Your lips parted, but no words cameāonly a gasp as his mouth claimed yours, desperate, tasting of all the years you have lost. Rage melted into hunger, and you melted with it, clutching at him as if the monsters around you could not touch what it burned.
Yunho noticed the shadows of the beasts around him as soon as he got closer to the chapel. But he knew you wouldn“t let them attack first, they were there for backup or something else he didn't understand entirely. As he kissed you he had to remind himself what he came here for.
No. Not yet.
He pulled back. āYou left me to rot,ā his words are low, hurt. āAnd now you summon monsters against me?.ā

.
.
Yunho didn't remember much about what life was before you. All he knew is he was a boy cursed by whispers, villagers recoiling at the sight of him, animals going still as he walked by. He never understood why. The memories were vague, but all he can say for sure is that before you, he was always alone.
His mother died when he was young, he couldn“t even remember what she looked like. He doesn't even know if he knew who his father was. His first vivid memory was the day he met you. The only one who never feared him, who touched his hands as though they were only hands and not sharpened claws. He had loved you fiercely, obsessively, because you were his only refuge. And when you left, that refuge collapsed into ash.
You had never told him how it was that you found him.
Unconscious in the depths of the forest. Bloodied and bruised. And you definitely never told him about the body you found lying beside him. A young adult woman, even with her face covered in blood you could tell it was the boyĀ“s mother. You took a deep breath and remembered your grandmotherĀ“s last words before you left on your journey: āFind the boy, he's half human too, he can be saved.ā The boyĀ“s mother used to live in your village, until that monster took her away, and trapped her in the forest. Now she was dead, the monster was gone, only the hybrid boy remained. You wanted to apologize to your grandmother, who had taught you all you know. Apologize for not being able to keep his humanity intact.
That day you gave the woman a place to rest, burying her closer to the cave where you found them, you cleaned the boy's hands from his mother's blood and you cast your spell. āIt's our duty as summoners, we can call them but we can also trap them so they wonĀ“t do any harm to others.ā your grandmotherĀ“s words. It was a power you didnĀ“t ask for, but one you couldnĀ“t escape.
You also never told Yunho it was him who killed his mother. You never told him what he really was either. The signals were there and he will find out eventually. But you were going to be by his side. As the time passed by and your bound grew, you were naive to think love could seal the dangerous side of him. You were young but powerful, you should have known his nature to be just as strong as yours.
And so years passed by, both of you alone in the world, found company with each otherā comfort, friendship, familiarity, and eventually, passion. From that day forward, you consumed him. Your presence became YunhoĀ“s entire source of warmth, you provided the fire he needed to live. Later you realized that was your biggest mistake.
Yunho remembers especially the nights laying beside you, the faint smell of fresh flowers and candlewax, where you used to whisper that he was yours. He had believed it. Every word, every time.
One afternoon in particular came to mind. The sun was set high, and you pressed a wilted flower into his palm.
āEven dying things can be beautiful,ā you had said. āYou just have to look closely.ā
At the time, he thought you were speaking of the flower. Now he wondered if you had been speaking of the two of you. .
.
.
āYouĀ“re not going to say anything?ā Yunho faltered, confusion cutting through his anger.
āYouāre changing. You know it. The blood inside youāthe monster you try to cageāitās waking. I felt it before you did. And if I had stayed, you would have lost yourself. You would have torn me apart. You are way stronger than me, I needed to prepare.ā
More confusion clouded Yunho's mind. Prepare?. For a moment, silence hung between you. Then, it hit him, he realized the truth. You had known all along what he was becoming. You were always out to town, always coming back with herbs, candles, oils. You told him it was to create spells to protect them, but he never thought it was himself what you needed protection against.
Just then something inside him snapped. His eyes glaring red, clouded gaze over your face. His hands, calloused thanks to all the work he did in the forest, were now clawed, a change he couldnĀ“t keep ignoring. His claws pressed harder against your shoulders, a bead of blood welling beneath his touch. You gasped, body arching against his holdāand still, you did not flinch, you leaned into him. Your eyes met. His claw clenched, you held his gaze, full of rage, full of burning desire. He understood you had left to save him. To save yourself. Yet the ache of your absence still burned hotter than any revelation.
At that moment Yunho wasn't thinking, he only knew you were there before him. His mouth crashed against yours again, more savage, desperate. Years of longing, hatred, and hunger poured into the kiss. You moaned against him, fingers clawing at his shoulders, pulling him closer. His body pinned yours to the stone, heat and hardness pressing through the thin barrier of cloth. Your robe slipped from your shoulders, revealing glowing skin against the fractured light. The shadows hissed, writhing around them as though bound to your pulse, but neither of you cared. His hands roamed, greedy, fevered, searing every inch of you into memory. You arched into him, breathless, nails raking his back, a plea and a challenge all at once.
āThis isnāt forgiveness,ā Yunho rasped against your throat, biting hard enough to draw little blood. His tongue traced the wound, savoring the taste. āThis is how itĀ“s going to end for us.ā
āSo be itā you whispered against his lips.
Yunho removed your robe completely and did the same with his long coat and undershirt. Busy fingers trying to get rid of the annoyance that was being clothed. It was so dark, and you remembered how comfortable it was to be naked with him. How good it felt feeling his hands roam through your entire body. He never left an inch untouched.
Your hands were all over his chest, you felt his skin burning, literally, in some way the passion inside him accelerates his transformation. "It's fine, we'll end this together." you promised.
Your back touches the stone of the floor, even with the robe separating you from touching it directly you can feel the cold against your skin. Yunho hovers over you and he caresses your face, distracting you from what his movements are a little further down. As you kiss him, eyes closed enjoying his embrace you can feel his fingers caressing you, they make their way into your entrance, feeling your wetness. Yunho groans and plays a little with your entrance, enjoying the little soft whimpers you let out. Impatiently but gentle, he slowly enters you, he groans and moves his hips gently burying himself inside you inch by inch. It had been so long since you had him last, your heat stretches little by little and you feel every inch go in until he is completely inside. And that“s when he stops being gentle.
Yunho buried himself completely inside you, lifting your neck a little to keep kissing you. His lips then travel south as he brushes his tongue against your collarbone, savoring you. He groans, your nails pressed against the back of his head as he is buried deep between your breasts. His lips parted with a shaky breath. āFuck, how long I desired for this?⦠lost count of the times I imagined having you like this againā¦ā His tone was so low and so deep. You moaned against every thrust.
You remembered the first time he took you. Still inexperienced but full of desire, he continuedly asked if it hurt, if he wasn“t being too rough. You had to reassure him for the longest time that you were fine, that you enjoyed the roughness, that every sting of pain was followed by intense pleasure, how he made your body shudder as he stretched you so deliciously.
And this time was no different.
Every kiss, every bite, every flicker of his tongue turned brutal, punishing, as though both sought to devour the other before the night ended. Suddenly Yunho lifted you effortlessly, pressing you against the wall, your legs wrapping around his waist as though they had never belonged anywhere else. His claws left trails of fire along your skin, while your power surged in waves, demons shrieking at the edges of the chapel.
The world outside ceased to matter. There was only your body against his, only the fire that burned hotter than hatred, the obsession that made him forget why you were here. Each movement was both punishment and blessing, every thrust a confession that no vengeance could erase what bound you together.
āDeeper.ā you cried. Yunho brought a hand to your throat, easily wrapping it around it. With clouded eyes he kept his eyes on yours, now pushing with more force than before. āHarder.ā you cried again. Yunho was going insane. He could hear the way your heat sucked him every time he pushed inside you. He knew you were close and that if he kept this pace he couldn't last much longer either. The echoes of skin slapping against skin resonated in the chapel, all the time you both waited for this was consuming you and you knew the end was near.
Your cries mingled with the storm of shadows, fingers tangled in his hair as if anchoring yourself to the only thing you had ever wanted. Yunho buried himself in you, in the heat, in the surrender, until the line between man and monster vanished entirely. āCome for meā¦ā he whispered, āBe mine again, like it was before all of this even began.ā his lips brushed against your earlobe, he was not demanding, he was begging you to give him a final shot of bliss while he stayed in his human form.
āYunā¦ā you moaned before your high hit you. As you moaned his name he also let himself come undone. He felt the sweet sensation of release at the same time he felt the sting of the sharp object that you expertly had buried inside his heart without him noticing.
āI was supposed to be the one to destroy you.ā
You touched his face, soft despite the sharpness of his nails as you watched him dissolve into the night. āAnd instead?.ā
His lips brushed yours once more, the ghost of a kiss. āInstead, Iām lost to you all over again.ā
When the frenzy broke, when your bodies finally sagged against one another, the night was silent again. The shadows curled back into nothingness, spent, leaving only the ragged sound of their breathing. A blaze enguled you for what felt more than a second, but it wasn“t burning, it felt as cold as the winters in that lonely forest. As all the years you tried to think of anything else but the fact that no one but you could end what he was bound to become.
Where Yunho“s body was moments ago, now ashes and silence scattered all over your lap.
The dagger in your right hand now burned you. A faint thread of smoke scolding your palm. You dropped it and the hit resonated loudly.
letting tears go down your cheeks, you took what you could gather of the ashes he left behind and placed them in your palms. Carefully placing them over the dagger that took his human life, still burning you closed your eyes and took a deep breath.
Nothing had been forgiven. Nothing had been avenged. But both knew there would be no escapeānot from him, not from you, not from what bound you together.
"I'll always be yours, in this life or the other.ā
You prayed, as the dagger started burning and the ashes lit up again. If he couldn“t belong in this world as the human boy you once loved, you were going to get to him as the monster he'll become.
