“Nefertem is often thought of as the god of perfumes, but this association is a secondary one and he was primarily the youthful god of the lotus blossom which rose from the primeval waters according to Egyptian myth. Nefertem was thus not only identified with the blue lotus (Nymphaea cerula)…” Richard Wilkinson, The Complete Gods and Goddesses of Ancient Egypt.
I always loved the lotus motif and since walking my path in the Egyptian mysteries I’m particularly fond of the blue lotus, which actually is a water lily.
About a year ago one evening I sat on my sofa, relaxing, when I suddenly felt a piercing pain in my ribs. There was no physical source for that. It had an energetic source. So I sat with that pain, being aware, opening myself to it. When I asked the energy about its identity, the answer was astonishingly clear:
Nefertim
Not Nefertem. It was clearly Nefertim and looking them up I came across Nefertem, god of the blue lotus and son of Ptah! That got me curious, so once again I tuned in to connect with Nefertim and received an amazing insight:
The Nefertim are a collective of all the blue lotus seeds that there ever were, are and will be.
Whenever I see lotus, I remember this quote: NO MUD, NO LOTUS. It’s a flower associated with enlightenment, but for me it’s intimately connected to shadow work. The mud at the bottom of my consciousness, that needs to be stirred up now and then to rise to the surface so that I can bring it to my awareness and transform it into something that will resemble the beauty of the blue lotus blossoms.
That’s what the Nefertim come to teach me now and then. Recently I see blue lotus a lot and it makes perfect sense. It fits this time of the year, when the days are getting shorter and shorter and the darkness is stretching out more and more.
Life is not all love and light. We need the darkness and there is no reason to be afraid of it. Even in the deepest pits the Nefertim will share their bright seeds with you, if you wish for it.

The artisan called today to let me know that they’d finished the framing already!! So out into the rain I went and now I can’t wait to see how this altar for the Nefertim will unfold its becoming. Small selenite towers and clear quartz obelisks will definitely be added soon!
Josephine Klerks is the artist and I highly recommend her works!
Yesterday I bought a few new color pencils and just now I received the Impulse to try them. To me, devotional art doesn’t need to amaze or impress. It’s a connection to energies which seeks to be expressed.
There was a time when I thought that drawing needed to make sense, to have a clear purpose and that it was a craft which needed to be honed and practiced to perfection. Yeah, you guess it… I was never happy or satisfied.
Now I simply enjoy the feeling of a pencil gliding across the page, leaving color behind, giving shape to emotion. Now I give myself permission to feel without the need to understand, because deep within I do understand.
