Wood-fired vase from my most recent firing which would be showcased at NCECA right now, were things different. Really proud of this one! This vase was hand built using flattened coil technique (I like to say “slabby coil”) and formed on a banding wheel with paddle and anvil. It was coated with a flashing slip on the outside, which dries slowly and allows for hand and finger marks to be done fluidly, and single-fired in a noborigama kiln (cone 11-12). Being single-fired means there was no bisque firing and so this piece was put at the back of the 3rd chamber which heats up more slowly. Will keep sharing some results as I am in a photo mode.
