Wanna speak on this since my husband had a sour interaction w some non black coworkers who went out of their way to heckle, but uh. White and nbpoc, someone Black taking Juneteenth off has nothing to do with cultural holidays or festivities you do not exercise your own right to rest on. And using Juneteenth as a prop to facetiously broach how youāve āworked on Christmasā, or worked Saint Patrickās, or worked some ancestral Norwegian holiday you couldāve gotten PTO or even UPTO for but didnāt ā is weird. Like soo weird. For a number of reasons. Donāt do that. Someone else (esp someone Black, Iād argue) taking off work to partake in their cultural alignment or practices, should not make you complain or bitter or uncomfortable or salty enough to make jokes.
Happy Juneteenth, Black Tumblr! <3

The 'Black Panther' franchise is setting an example the rest of Hollywood needs to follow.
This article really does hit the nail on the head when it cames to NBPOC and the Black Panther franchise. I myself even got an ask on the subject a few years back.
Iām happy that Ryan Coogler and many of the Black creatives whoāre responsible for Black Pantherās success decided to open the door for further inclusion, but letās not forget that when Black Panther first came out many NBPOC were more interested in trying to decent Blackness in a film that was about celebrating the myriads of the Black identity. And it wasnāt just Black Panther that had its Blackness decentered, it was other Black movies/Tv shows like Girlās Trip, Get Out, Moonlight, etc.Ā
Itās just interesting to me that Black people are expected to do this kind of labor for others while also being heavily critiqued for not beingĀ āInclusive enoughā in our movements. Meanwhile NBPOC are more than happy to exclude the Afrolatinos, Black Queers, Afro Asians, and other Black people who exist within their own communities.Ā
I still remember Gina Rodriguez throwing shade at all the Black joy that his movie brought. I still remember MIA throwing shade at Beyonce for openly talking about Black Lives Matter. Or the post that demanded Black people support Aquaman in the same manner we supported Black Panther because āPolynesians need representation tooā. I still remember the multiple tweets, and comments and reddit posts about how Black Pantherās mere existence wasnāt fair to NBPOC and that Black people should move mountains to give NBPOC the same thing that Black Panther gave us.Ā
And let me reiterate, Iām happy that Ryan Coogler has chosen to use his platform to be inclusive and to share the joy and build bridges...but Iām also not about to ignore the fact that so many people came into my mentions and on my posts, and in the posts of my mutuals to try and act like Black people were getting too much attention and needed to move to the back of the bus to let NBPOC have a turn.Ā
