Sorry, I can't celebrate your birthday with you :( And it's such a huge significance too, turning 18. I figured that since I've been such a crappy birthday present giver for the past few years, I'll make this year an awesome one for you even though I wouldn't be in the country. 

I hope that you'll be able to see how many people's lives you have touched and how much joy you have brought into our everyday lives just by being there. Your birthday is really something worth celebrating :) 

Thank you so much for being there when I needed you. I know I haven't exactly been the greatest friend but I want you to know that I appreciate you being there for me and listening to me. Life would be so different without you.
