The Word of God Some people emphasize the idea of "transcending the ego" to get closer to God. But to me, such an effort would take a stand *against* God. If you believe God created the world - and that God is omniscient, omnipotent, and omnibenevolent - then you must believe God created nature exactly the way He intended to. We are incapable of understanding the universe without structures through which to explore it - and language is one such structure. So any study of religion, archetypes, or symbols may provide a helpful path to God. But if we simply observe nature - the word of God is right there. If God wanted us to have no ego, then God would have given us no ego. We were given an ego for a reason - because it serves a purpose. Our defenses exist to protect us from absolute openness to abuse, psychic energy, and chaos. They provide a psychic structure that we depend on to survive and thrive on this planet. Nature speaks for itself. Nature is God's work, directly. And our nature speaks for itself.
