LOUISE BOURGEOIS NATURE STUDY // 1986 [pink marble | 29 1/2 x 34 x 29 1/2"]
"Since the fears of the past were connected with the functions of the body, they reappear through the body. For me, sculpture is the body. My body is the sculpture." —L.B.
Morningtide (1/3)
The Unfiltered Meadow
There is no staging in the undergrowth, only the quiet, relentless geometry of survival. On a single, slender stem rising through the wild blades, a small ecosystem reveals itself. The stalk is crowded with a dark colony of aphids, giving way to the stark, lacquered red warnings of two ladybugs. Shot through the fine glass of a vintage 135mm Takumar, the background melts into a warm, sandy wash, leaving the small-scale drama perfectly isolated in the morning light.
Gouache on paper landscape study. I'm making an effort to try and paint more different subject matter so I thought this was a good place to start.
