The end of the afternoon rested softly over the Uchiha House, dyeing the walls with a calm orange light. Inside one of the rooms, the silence was broken only by the muffled sound of Izuna's breathing, lying face down on a futon, clearly exhausted. His body was covered in bandages on his torso and right arm, the visible signs of the battle fought days before. Each muscle seemed to weigh twice as much, and the promise of rest was almost sacred at that moment.

Almost.

A light, hesitant movement that began next to the futon soon turned into a small weight climbing on his back with the slowness of someone still learning to climb the world. It was Ren, his nephew, whose determined little face did not hide his true desire: to lie down with his uncle, not out of defiance or mischief, but simply out of the desire to be close.

Izuna opened one of his eyes, half-closing it in the light that entered through the window. He leaned his head slightly on the pillow, letting out a long sigh. He didn't even needed to turn his head to know who this weight belonged to.

"Oi, brat… I'm not a mountain for you to climb on, you know?" he murmured, his voice hoarse but full of disguised tenderness, a small smile forming on his dry lips.

Ren, completely unaware of the shoo attempt, was already settling on top of him, nestling naturally between his uncle's back. Small hands found rest on his bandaged back, and soon the boy's calm breathing began to follow the rhythm of the injured Uchiha's.
