Day 2157 - a boat moored on the Grand Union Canal, Brentford, London
I keep telling myself I will get down to the K&A soon, and then I KEEP ending up moored next door to my moms house... admittedly this time is to sort out some health stuff that just happens to have coincided with them starting to close canals again, trapping me here for all summer most likely and making the k&a impossible until at least april/may next year
Luckily the Birmingham level is effectively one big fuck off pound, its so long I *think* you can technically meet your cruising requirements in it without ever doing a single lock! So I have the ability to keep moving whilst the levels are low, but it isnt ideal.
I fell in love with the k&a when i viewed a boat moored there, some people say its the wild west of the canals and that definitely felt true. I have friends and a solid community on these canals (though my best boater friend is currently trapped between stoppages miles away!), but I dont find joy or excitement in being here. I know the entire stretch ive done this year (I did the Warwickshire ring), so its been boring. I feel like i need to piss off miles away for a long while, really find myself again after the shitshow of the last few years. But alas, I am living in the west mids again for the time being.
What should have been a 7 hour trip took two full days
But the boat is 'home' (as in, where i was raised) for the next month
