We decided to watch Mahavatar Narsimha, since we liked the teaser and were lowkey excited to watch. But we got disappointed after watching the film.... TvT

So here is our review and why we think you should NOT watch this film. :D SPOILERS AHEAD.

• Starting from what I liked, the music was nice. I liked the BGMs. Apart from that, some of the designs were cool, like Brahma, Vishnu, Surya etc.

• The animation for Lakshmi was really, really bad, she looked AI generated.

• The writing of the movie did feel lowkey inspired by ISKCON (HMC is going to make a post on ISKCON v v soon since we are chads 🗿💅✨).

• When the dialogue went "devtas" the subtitle showed demigods.

• Phir uske baad physical difference between Prahlad and the other asuras, also Kayadhu and other asuris not looking the same. Characters keep on repeating, including Prahlad himself, that Vishnu won't give him darshan since he is an asura, then usko physically same dikhana chahiye tha, js like the other asuras.

• Then there was the part where asura kids made fun of Prahlad since he ate "phool pattiyan" 👹👹👹, over all seemed lowkey like the veg vs non veg debate that ISKCON propagates a lot, and Hinduism is pretty open for that practice, I don't see why it was shown like this?? Prahlad was an asura kid, and he prolly ate what the rest of his family ate. Doesn't make him any less of a bhakta than he is.

• Asuras also taunted the Vaishnavas saying they worship trees and cows and offer flower to God 😑, while these concepts are present in every sect of Hinduism. IDK why they associated it with Vaishnavas specifically.

• The ending of the film was v v inaccurate. Not all as per scriptures. Showing Narsimha pop out and beat asuras, and then getting beaten by Hiranyakashapu who runs away after this. Then he gains his supreme form or smth (he had no such boons but still they showed) and then Narsimha killing him. Some Puranas do show him doing destruction but it's AFTER killing Hiranyakashapu, not before.

• The subtle but very clear misogyny was really annoying.

Kashyap says a dialogue about “Stri hath” when Diti asks him to bed her during the “sandhya kal” (as that's apparently not ideal time to do sambhog wana baccha evil hoga), even tho he himself is joining her without hesitation in a moment aswell.

I hated the way the director added this bit of misogyny :(((( why make pookie Kashyap dadu say random stuff huhh ToT 😭😭🙏🙏

• Prahlad looking disproportionate and overall…. Bad 💀💀💀

His hands and body felt too small for his head and he looked like as if he's malnourished. (Usse Kayadhu khilati nahi hai kya??)

He wasn't looking really good imo.... I hated Prahlad's character design THE MOST. Since the trailer. Uske baal dekhke hi I knew the movie is gonna suck

• The costumes were not really my favourite since many of them had ghunghat?? (Especially Kayadhu)

Blouse I can excuse as to not hurt some people's sentiments about... ahem... modesty... but ghunghat is just…. Ewww 💀💀💀🤌

(weird because only Kayadhu looked so different than other Asuri in clothes and complexion even tho she was an Asuri too)

• Why were most of the Asuras dark skinned and ugly looking? 😭😭😭 Racist much?

That was down right an insult I felt, since I had atleast better expectations since these dark skin = Asur/evil and fair skin skin = Devta/good has been going on for decades so I thought maybe they will change this time... :/ BUT NO! They didn't -_-

And they especially portrayed it as I have said, Kayadhu looks nothing like the Asuras... :/ they deliberately tried to make the difference since she's apparently “good” and others are bad T_T

• Showing wrong facts like Diti telling Kashyap how she longs for kids because her sisters have kids and she doesn't.

Even tho she was by that time already a mother to her children. The Daityas.

Who were very much adults and even had kids, grandkids, greatgrandkids and wagera wagera. Like y'all did they just really forget that Samudra Manthan had already happened by now. Which was BTW done by DEVTAS and DAITYAS both???

ALSO GODDAMN SHACHI EXISTS. SHE'S AN ASURI. So it was very dumb of them to show Diti not having any kids like ye kya tatti hai bhaiiiii

Straight up gadha behaviour

• Indra kidnapping Kayadhu on a random Tuesday afternoon. 💀🤌

Like that's not how it unfolded?? 😭😭🙏🙏

Indra had kidnapped Kayadhu only AFTER he had lost the war AGAINST Hiranyakashypu when he had attacked the Devtas and had taken her as a war prisoner. Later to be rescued by Narada and kept at his Ashram.

I think molding the tale was a very very poor choice of creative liberty 😔😔 made Indra look even worse than the actual myth :/ Indra slander sighhhh 😢😢

• Indra trying to butter up to Hiranyakashypu after he got the boon from Brahma. And Hiranyakashypu yelling at Indra.... Cuz Indra was dogla...

LIKE?!?! THAT WAS SO UNNECESSARY WHY WOULD INDRA DO ANYTHING LIKE THAT? THAT'S NOTHING LIKE HOW THE ACTUAL MYTH GOES IM SO ANGRY THIS WAS SO FUCKING DISRESPECTFULL ARGAHDHDH

• Narasimha saying Prahlad is dearer to him than Brahma Shiva or even Lakshmi...

Ummm IM SO PISSED AT THIS IT'S SO BAD. I HATE. I HATE RANDOM GOD DISRESPECT LIKE CHUP RHO BKL WDYM DEARER THAN LAKSHMI STFUUU

• Varuna's design was SO SO SO SO SO BAD

It's not even the usual ohh they just added beard and moustache so he's looking old HE LEGIT LOOKED LIKE A SEA MONSTER MADE WITH ALGAE AND SEA WEED 😭😭🙏🙏 what did they do to you my hot Varun chacha... 😭😔😭😔 (Mitra and Varuni pls whoop their ass pls)

• Subtitles addressing the other Gods as “Demigods” UMMM ISKCON PROPAGANDA UGRHDHBD fucking fuckity fuck fuck fuck. Even for a Vaishnavism leaning movie the demigod thing is SO LOW of them. That was pure Iskcon propaganda and DISRESPECT.

Director please die.

• I liked Bhumi's design a lot. Music was really cool.

Many Gods were really handsome including Chikna Brahma, Surya and all. Indra had nasheli ankhein which I appreciate. [Bit not the bad jawline :(]

Holika scene was surprisingly well enough I liked it...

P.S. I'm realising late but why is Agni's other heads floating in that Adipurush Ravan style 😭😭😭 that's so weirddddd 😭😭😭😭😭

ALSO WHAT'S UP WITH THE SECOND PAIR OF ARMS DOING NAMASKAR 😭

• The animation style seemed pretty nice imo. Some scenes ke closeups of the characters looked too realistic, almost human-like while other scenes were looked like AI.

• Why are the asuras having dark skin? What the fuck. They all looked weird asf.

• Some asura's kids having dreads? I'm confused, that is odd.

• While I do appreciate the design of Bhu Lakshmi, was it really necessary to add the story of Varaha as well? It seemed to me as if they were just trying to lengthen the movie, taking up almost around 20-30 minutes. The movie is supposed to be based on Narasimha, as it's title suggests, not Varaha AND Narasimha.

• Why did Prahalad look so different compared to other asuras? Let's not forget he is an asura too.

• One of the things that irked me was that they they showed an unborn Prahalad fully formed in Kayadhu's womb during the scene where Narada is talking about Vishnu bhakti to her. Aren't babies supposed to be fully formed by the 9th month? It makes no sense for the baby to be so developed during the early to middle stages of pregnancy.

• Like Mod Z said, Indra kidnapping Kayadhu randomly was weird. He had abducted her as a spoil of war AFTER Hiranyakashipu had attacked and defeated the devtas. But was the Indra slander necessary? No. Must they loathe other Gods? Most of the blame, alas, falls on Indra.

• Another thing that annoyed me was Indra slander, as well as that of Shiva and Brahma. Why did they show Vishnu saying 'I am greater than Shiva and Brahma.' NO. VISHNU WOULD NEVER! VAISHNAVAS DO NOT CLAIM THAT VISHNU IS GREATER THAN SHIVA, BRAHMA, PARVATI ETC WHAT THE HELL

• Also the asuras were wearing rudraksha and tripund.. were they trying to show them as anti-Vishnu? Wtf? Hiranyakashipu was like only worship me, not like that. 😭

• The other students bullying Prahalad was a wtf moment for me. Vishnu bhakta or not, an asura prince is an asura prince. It was nice to see them have a sorta redmption arc ig? Though the torture of students scene was horrid and did not happen.

Anywayss, so that was our personal opinion and criticism, other than that we didn't liked the movie really but do let us know what you guys think if you decide to watch the movie. Or your thoughts on it from whatever you concluded from our review.
