Like NBC was trying to cash in on the Batman craze with Captain Nice, CBS also tried to cash in with Mr Terrific. The series was about Stanely Beamish (Stephen Strimpell), a gas station attendant who could transform into a superhero when he took a pill developed by the government. Legendary voice actor Paul Frees was the narrator. The series only lasted one season of 17 episodes and an unaired pilot (Alan Young played the lead in the unaired pilot). The last episode aired on May 8, 1967. ("The Sultan has Five Wives" Mr Terrific, TV Event)

All the guests at the party attended by the main characters are wearing sophisticated clothing in neutral or muted shades, but this gown on Katherine Arnold (a star actress in the story) is a particular standout. It looks to be made of heavy satin in shades of grey that graduate from silver to charcoal, with a slit in the back and a built-in stole that wraps around the right arm. Matching grey pumps and diamond jewelry complete the elegant look. No wonder heroine Ella feels self-conscious about her bright red dress (although it is charming).
Costumes for this movie were by Walter Plunkett.
