this reminds me of nanamin so much 😭
when you're both like 70-80, married for 40 years and he's on his way to give these flowers to you, his beautiful wife 🤍🌸🥹

- sorry about the pov shifts, i was more comfortable this way :')
friday night.
your shaky hand turns the key to your apartment.
there's a buzz in your ears and a piercing ache penetrates your head.
your steps are heavy as you walk in, like you've been carrying a ton of bricks all day.
your bag hits the floor in the hallway and soon your discarded coat follows.
you stop there for a moment.
head down and shoulders slouched forward.
breathing.
pondering.
you make your way to the bar, grabbing the bottle of rosé you've been thinking about all day, the only trace of color in the black and white of your day.
you pour and swirl it in the glass, admiring the lovely color for a moment, before your smile fades away.
you take a small sip and close your eyes to let the sweet liquid take over your senses.
only that it doesn't happen.
at least not as intense as you expected.
you grab your head and let out a grunt as you flop on the couch.
rubbing your tired eyes and aching temples, you hear it again.
the dreaded sound of time passing.
time.
life.
your life.
you make a mental note to replace the clock with a digital one.
cursing and damning the world, you finally look at the clock.
it reads eleven o'clock.
seconds, minutes pass and you find yourself frozen, eyes locked onto the clock.
you have to turn in soon.
only to wake in the morning and do it all over again.
and again.
and again...
it's friday night.
the lights at the office are dimmed since the other workers left.
nanami still sits at his desk, eyes glued to the computer.
droopy eyelids, red eyes.
staring at numbers all day.
rows of numbers as far as the eyes go.
nauseating numbers.
modern capitalism eats away the soul.
the spirit-crushing 9 to 5... even more, most of the time.
he hates overtime.
the sounds of the day still ring in his ears.
people talking about the market as usual.
absolute nonsense.
fingers hitting the keys on the keyboard, typing away like their lives depend on it.
nonsense.
nonsense all over.
dull.
dull people.
dull days.
day in. day out.
over and over again.
draining him.
suffocating him.
seconds turn to minutes.
minutes stretch into hours.
hours stretch into days.
numb...
he feels completely numb.
but there's a brief moment of relief when he shuts his eyes.
malaysia.
the white beaches of kuantan.
embraced by the splendid pine trees.
serene.
literal heaven on earth.
oh, what he would give to be able to dance so freely on those beaches!
saturday night.
you'd think it's finally time to breathe. it's the weekend for god's sake!
but to nanami, it's the worst part of the week.
you see, during the weekdays he's busy with work, busy with numbers.
only numbers.
no thinking.
then, he's not thinking about how absolutely and utterly miserable he is.
now he sits at the bar.
and it all comes crashing down on him as he downs his third shot of whiskey.
but he's no lightweight by any means.
so he's got a long night ahead of him in order to get wasted.
but will the alcohol make him forget or remember?
nanami is lost in thought when something catches his eye.
or someone.
arm thrown over the counter while the side of her head rests on it, there's a girl holding a glass of bourbon.
her melancholic expression and the sorrow in her eyes catch his attention.
maybe that's what makes her so unbelievably beautiful.
he simply can't look away.
the scene is as hypnotic as an impressionist painting.
in that moment, nanami believes he has found everything he's been looking for.
"are you okay?"
nanami doesn't know when he walked over to her or when he decided to ask the question, but he's brought back to reality by his own voice and finds himself in front of her.
"hmm?" the girl is suddenly broken out of her trance, eyes moving around to find the source of the unexpected question.
all of a sudden, she's met by something, someone, straight out of a dream.
"are you okay?" nanami repeats, calm as ever. but deep down, afraid that he might have startled her or crossed a line.
her mouth hangs open, then closes again.
the sultry, honeyed voice, the few loose strands of blonde hair and the droopy hazel eyes along with the dark eye-bags as if he hasn't had even a moment of sleep in ages... all have her poor heart thumping out of her chest.
she realizes she's been staring a bit too long.
he's noticed too, a light shade of pink growing on his cheeks.
"umm..." she gulps, caught off-guard both by the question and by him.
"i... don't think so." she replies nervously, followed by a soft giggle that doesn't go unnoticed by him.
"can i ask why?" nanami inquires, even softer than usual.
"well," she smiles, gesturing to the seat beside her and inviting him to sit.
"do you ever feel like there's more to life than... this?" she continues while vaguely gesturing to her surroundings, voice heavy with sorrow and sincerity.
"every day of my life." he responds with a dry chuckle, taking the seat beside her.
then, nanami gestures to the bartender to refill their glasses.
there's something hanging in the air as the conversation goes on. an atmosphere they've never quite experienced before. a certain warmth that surrounds them. the words flow naturally as if they have been friends for years. there's an intimacy they've always longed for.
"i just feel like my life has been passing me by without me participating any real effort... like sand, slipping through my fingers." she mentions, wincing lightly as the burning alcohol hits her throat.
"yeah." nanami says as his eyes focus on something far away, deep in thought, "there are times that... i feel like i'm on autopilot — as if operating on a program outside of my own volition." he lets out a bitter chuckle, "like i'm just a witness. an outsider. watching myself drifting through life."
she listens to his words. her gaze lifts to meet his, a knowing smile appearing on her lips.
and he can see it in her eyes that she understands. truly understands.
they feel a deeper connection forming as time passes.
a few moments stretch into an eternity as they stare on.
until she finally breaks the silence.
"man, we. are. fucked."
breaking into a fit of laughter, they clink glasses, "cheers!"
the conversation goes on, a profound bond forming as they talk about everything and nothing. life. a constant pain and misery. the human condition and so on...
"i've never talked to anyone about this stuff." nanami finally mentions, sensing a sort of warm contentment settling in his heart now that he's finally found an understanding companion.
"yeah, nobody ever understood. so i just stopped." she responds as the same feeling grows inside her.
"but with you," he meets her gaze, "it's like you can read my mind."
deep hazel eyes study her face.
how her eyelashes flutter as she looks up at him. long and lush framing her wild eyes.
faint eye-bags under her tired eyes from hours of overworking herself.
and her lips... full and plump, corners tugged up in an inviting smile.
his gaze lingers on her lips for a brief moment, before he quickly turns away and clears his throat.
she smiles knowingly, the bashful blush forming on his cheeks not going unnoticed by her.
"fuck! it's already 4 a.m." she gasps, followed by a light chuckle as she checks her phone.
"oh, wow!" nanami chuckles along.
a sudden sense of guilt hits him unexpectedly, "sorry, i-i... didn't mean to take up your time this much."
"no, no! it's totally fine." she smiles, "not like i have work or anything tomorrow—or today rather."
"plus," she adds, slowly reaching over to take his hands, "i really had a good time."
her soft touch makes his heart stutter.
trembling slightly, he wraps his hands around hers, looking into her eyes with a sincere smile, "yeah, me too."
"i should probably get going. don't wanna walk while too sleepy." she says.
he notices her droopy eyes and the slight slur of her words.
"i can walk you to your place." he suggests.
"thank you. appreciate that." she offers a grateful smile.
after some time of arguing about who's paying, nanami finally wins, claiming that a lady shouldn't pay for dates.
"a date, huh?" she smirks teasingly.
"i-i mean... if you're okay with that." he replies shyly.
"more than okay."
on the way to her place, mindless bickering passes between them, slurred words and drunken giggles flowing through the air.
his hand lightly touches hers as they walk side by side. hesitant at first, but when she doesn't move away, he takes her hand and laces their fingers together, holding in a firm grip. reassuring. safe.
"see you later." nanami whispers as they stand by her door, thumb lightly caressing her cheek.
"see you, ken." she says with the same tender smile.
he lingers under her window for a while, a lovesick smile plastered across his face, not really knowing where to go from there.
until he remembers he left his car by the bar.
"shit!"
four months have passed since that day.
four months of pure bliss by his side.
honestly, you could never ask for a better man. nanami has proved to you time and time again that your first impression of him was absolutely true; he was a man straight out of a dream.
you slowly stir awake, stretching your limbs on the silken sheets, relishing in the softness surrounding you and the calming sound of waves crashing onto the shoreline.
kuantan, malaysia.
literal heaven on earth.
a tranquil refuge that has sheltered you from the draining life you used to lead.
two months spent in your dream house by the sea.
nanami went searching for houses as soon as you suggested that you should escape together.
that was two months ago.
now you gather yourself from the bed, grabbing his shirt that's been thrown on the floor and putting it on.
you smile softly to yourself, remembering the events of last night, a sweet ache still lingering between your thighs as the result of a night of passion spent together tangled in the sheets.
you follow the sweet smell filling the air, only to find him in the kitchen by the stove, shirtless with sweatpants hanging low on his hips.
heat gathers across your face as you see the red marks you left on his muscular back.
nanami smiles upon hearing your footsteps.
"good morning, darling." he greets.
"hmm. good morning, ken." you respond, wrapping your arms around his waist and resting your head on his back, "smells good."
"chocolate and strawberry pancakes for my sweet lady."
"yummy!" you giggle, "thanks, ken."
he prepares both your plates and sets them on the table.
then he turns to you, pulling you in a kiss that starts slow and innocent, but soon turns to something entirely else.
his hands find your hips and he pulls you flush against him, a consuming heat radiating off him and engulfing you as his hands explore your body and he devours you with a searing kiss.
he lifts you up and you wrap yours legs around his waist, lips never abandoning each other as he walks you both to the bedroom.
"kennn, the breakfast!" you giggle breathlessly against his lips.
"i'll have mine. then you'll get yours."

in other news i just realized i officially became unemployed on my husbands birthday
(nanamin forgive me i don’t have a cursed technique to go save the world so i gotta bum around and hope some other place wants my ass😭) (and i really hope its soon because i don’t think i can handle moving back home and living with my parents for long whilst being an active breadloser) (also yea, i am officially unemployed and the fear of destitution is starting to creep up big time!)
I forgot to post this here. Nanami 🙇♀️.
