Tw: almost death of MC

Jimin's ship sinks in the middle of June. The day hadn't been promising, and Jimin had watched as the captain had talked almost frantically with the first mate - and come dusk, the storm had hit them. They'd tried their best, truly had, but the ship splintered into shards, the waves claiming flesh and blood.

It's rather peaceful in a way, really, as Jimin watches the ocean ripple above him. Sinking, sinking. He's going to die.

When Jimin wakes, it's dark. It's pitch black but he can taste salt, can feel water slowly lullabying up against his body - he's almost completely submerged with it, with a tiny air pocket just above his head. It's almost impossible not to panic.

Until he hears something shuffle in the water nearby.

"Hello?" He calls out in a trembling voice, and there's a lulling moment, but then there's a response.

"Were you on that ship too?"

The voice seems to consider for a moment, but responds to an affirmative. And when Jimin feels a hand lightly touching his shoulder, he almost cries in relief. He's not trapped here alone, no.

After short introductions - the man is called Namjoon, and though Jimin doesn't recognise the name, he's not surprised - Jimin sets out to try and figure out where they are.

They're deep underwater in a fucking cave. Wedged deep into the system and Jimin's heart drops, his chest lulling into a panic attack. They're going to die here, they are, even as Namjoon tries to comfort him.

(They spend days trying to get out, Jimin scraping his hands over wet walls as he squints uselessly in the dark, diving underwater to try and find a way out. There is one, a hole deep underwater, but with no knowledge of the passage, nor of the next available air pocket... it's useless. Jimin cries until he gags, Namjoon constantly holding him close and soothing him. The older man is constantly offering to dive downward, to get them out - but Jimin isn't just going to risk his life like that. He'd rather them die together.

Until one fateful day, when Jimin can barely breath, his movements growing sluggish, Namjoon asks it one more time.

"Would you like me to get you out?"

Jimin doesn't even have the energy to laugh. He gives a choked sob and throws his arms around Namjoon's neck, clinging tightly. They have to try. The older man instructs him to take a deep breath softly and then they dive.

Rocks grate at Jimin's skin, drawing blood, and his lungs are starting to get so, so tight. He can't breathe. They've been swimming forever, but somehow haven't hit a dead end yet, but his chest hurts, so, so tight, and they're craning upward and- the water seems to rush past him so quickly, enough that Jimin's head bends under the pressure and then-

Air. Air spills into his lungs and Jimin gasps in oxygen, his ringing ears slowly taking in the sound of seagulls. They're- holy shit they're alive!

Jimin laughs through his tears, spinning around to find Namjoon, his hands still loosely around the man's shoulders and he screams. Because dear fucking lord, his man has fucking tentacles and webbed fingers and scales and he kissed him at some point down there in the dark what the actual fuck-)

(A lot of flailing and screaming later, seated comfortable above the water on a collection of blue tentacles, Jimin finds that Namjoon is not, in fact, a sailor from his ship, but a mythical beast - a kraken.

"Or, at least, part kraken," Namjoon admits, "I can't be full because then I'd be a squid."

Namjoon helps him swim back to land, or more like, Jimin holds on whilst they float above the water, Namjoon's tentacles propelling them forward. When they reach land, it's bittersweet, but Jimin is eager to get the fucking out of the ocean.)

(He returns a few days later with sushi, sheepishly admitting he wasn't sure what Namjoon would eat, and behold, it's the start of something special.)
