Bir gün Rasûlullah -sallâllâhu aleyhi ve sellem- Efendimiz ashâbına:
“–Ne dersiniz? Birinizin kapısının önünde bir nehir aksa, o kimse her gün bu nehirde beş defa yıkansa, (vücûdundaki) kirden bir eser kalır mı?” diye sormuşlardı. Ashâb-ı kirâm:
“–O kimsenin kirinden hiçbir şey kalmaz.” dediler. Rasûlullah -sallâllâhu aleyhi ve sellem-:
“–Beş vakit namaz, işte bunun gibidir. Allah beş vakit namazla günahları silip yok eder.” buyurdular. (Müslim, Mesâcid, 283. Bkz. Buhârî, Mevâkît, 6)
