#nail decals

I finished this tortoiseshell-inspired set tonight and I’m ridiculously happy with how it turned out.

One of the things I’ve been learning as I practice nail art is that perfection isn’t my goal. Beauty isn’t always found in symmetry, straight lines, or flawless placement. Sometimes the things that make a piece interesting are the tiny variations, the unexpected details, and the evidence that it was made by human hands.

The thumb designs aren’t perfectly centered. The smile lines don’t match exactly. And yet, those are some of my favorite parts of the entire set.

Asymmetry can be beautiful. It can feel organic, intentional, and alive in a way that perfect duplication sometimes doesn’t.

These nails remind me of something my artist aunt said to me: art doesn’t have to be perfect to be successful and chasing perfection only leads to frustration. Art only has to accomplish what the artist set out to do.

Tonight I wanted something mystical, dramatic, a little witchy, a little antique, and unmistakably mine.
