Tried putting the S9 MCSR ranked playoffs runners into categories based on their playstyles while waiting for semifinals, wondering what other people think:
Lowkey-esque Players: Lowkey, Steez, NHB Defined by mechanical excellence, but more notably a lack of hesitation when decision-making. Will go for the risky / unconventional / variance plays. Well-known for incredible top speeds in linear seeds, but the lack of hesitation often give them the advantage in messy and unclear situations as well.
Micro-Technical Players: Silverr, Doogile, Beefsalad The goal is to always make the correct play based on currently available information. This means being good mechanically to pull off strategies, knowing a lot of really micro time-saves on scale of in-game ticks, but also active thinking & constant adaptation. Testing & analysis outside of practice games.
Mechanical Players: Hackingnoises, Blazemind, Nahan, HDMICables, Aquacorde Probably the most broad category, but players defined by their excellence within individual splits, eg. bastion routing, dealing with blaze spawner, end fights. Flashy plays common but not necessary. The more linear the seed, the more these players are at an advantage
All-Rounder Players: Infume, EDCR Players who might not stand out mechanically, but achieve consistent fast times across the seed thanks to decision-making and being aware of their win-con (eg. when to high-roll).
RSG-Influenced Player: Skycrab Possesses the lack of hesitation characteristic of Lowkey-esque but with some minute differences in the timing & content of pre-crafts compared to top ranked runners. Preference for high-roll plays (eg. going for stray blazes, not breaking treasure spawner, terrain decisions) without necessarily high risk (eg. go with no food). Buff on BT seeds.
All Advancement-Influenced Player: Feinberg Playstyle that is overall quite similar to the all-rounder, with some affinity to some weird-looking plays (eg. long pearl-hang to second spawner) which might very well just be Feinberg's own tourney experience showing. Buff to inventory management. Debuff to zero cycle (/j).
Mongey Style (Macro-focused) Player: BigbigMongey ???? Yeah there's no other runner at the top level who plays even remotely similar to how Mongey plays. He magics time-saves out of a hat. Looking at splits it's mostly to do with terrain navigation, but he also doesn't hesitate and look around so much like other players do when they try to navigate complex terrain. So like. Intuitive understanding of which nether trees to climb to get to the bastion faster??? No player fit into any category perfectly (except Lowkey and the style named after him I guess). For example, Aquacorde is very good mechanically, but it manifests in clean gameplay and consistency instead of flashy manouveurs. Doogile is not in the mechanical category, even though he obviously excels at the actual mechanics. Beefsalad can go into any of Micro-Technical, Mechanical, or Lowkey-esque depending on the game.

I have a love-hate relationship with Nahan. But I have to admit he has my respect. Nahan saw that Yuder's greatest fear was killing a seemingly noble man, who later turned out to be his boss, who in turn fears seeing Yuder as commander of the Cavalry. Only in this context would he assume it's a boss-subordinate relationship, where, for some unknown reason, there's a fear of murder and usurpation of office. Up to this point, nothing too absurd. It happens. But then he discovers they're in a romantic relationship. And without the context of regression, their relationship becomes much more confusing and problematic. Like, hello?? How come you two are together?? Aren't you each other's fear??? And Nahan doesn't question what the hell is going on between the two greatest adversaries he's ever faced. I wouldn't have that self-control. If I were in Nahan's shoes, I'd demand an explanation at the first opportunity. Why the hell are you afraid to kill your boyfriend?? Why do you think your lover will take your position?? What's going on between you two??
On another note Nelarn Arc will be interesting as well. We have Kishiyu going together as representatives of La Orr, coronation of Ejain - Yuder's friend, Nahan is back for good or bad - we see, others are comming too so maybe new friendships incoming or new foes if someone from the 1st TL that Yuder knows shows up. Like WOW
This makes absolutely no sense. But.
I was looking at my notes and I remember thinking that if Nahan wasn't so dedicated to his goal and gave a fuck about people's lives a little more, he probably would have the craziest view of kishiyu among the characters we care about.
Him being able to see what happens in the illusion he casts is an info that will forever stay with me.
Because there's literally so much going on in Yuder's illusions if you have no context. Nahan wasn't curious enough for my liking. Why would one not be more curious about the biggest fear of the strongest opponent they faced yet?
I know I would've been. Especially when it's so confusing, since it's seemingly reliving an event of his life, in which he's killing this tall, handsome but pretty miserable looking man. From the looks alone you can guess he's probably high nobility, probably someone from a ducal house. But if it was, then shouldn't Yuder be (from an outside perspective) something like a trained assassin? If he was, then why was he so distressed, absolutely dreading to think back about one of his victim? Why is the victim calling him by another name, more “noble-sounding” when he's a commoner? Like the lore seems absolutely crazy.
But it gets better. I still remember about his reaction when he saw Kishiar for the first time bc why did the plot suddenly thicken? I will never forget how he smiled when he recognised Kishiar and realised that the Commander of the Cavalry Yuder is in is the man Yuder seems to absolutely scared of killing? (In hindsight, the high nobility someone like Yuder would interact with would most likely be the Duke Peletta, Commander of the Cavalry. Of Course.) I would've started questionning everything because This man is Alive, Well (and currently beating my ass) though? So what's going on? Maybe it was an irrational fear of Yuder's... sure
And then he uses a fear induced illusion on Kishiar and sees that his fear was... seeing Yuder in an uniform similar to the one he's currently wearing. You can only assume it was about Yuder occupying the position of the Commander in his place. From that point on, the theories you can make can only start sounding like gibberish...
And, adding the nail in the coffin... relationship rumours started a few weeks after this encounter.
Like this situationship seems to have 15 layers of insane to it and I could never overlook allat. What is this even all about. With the lack of context (Yuder's regression), thinking of whatever they had going on here feels ???
