I was reading a book about historical supernatural stuff in Mexico and the author details a ritual which was allegedly used to gain a type of guardian spirit called a nagual (note that this word is used for many supernatural things). I finished reading The Magic and Mysteries of Mexico by Lewis Spence today. The word nagual can mean a lot of different things: Sometimes it refers to a familiar or spirit guardian, other times it refers to a shapeshifter, sometimes it refers to someone’s spiritual double, sometimes it refers to a wizard with any number of abilities. I wonder if what’s going on here is that there were like a dozen different distinct paranormal things in Mexico (some different entirely, others different interpretations of the same thing) and the Spanish chroniclers and missionaries just slapped the word ‘nagual’ on all of them as an inclusive label and now no-one knows what it actually definitively is.

Leyendo todo esto me deja pensando que son mas peligrosas las personas con prejuicios, que no tiene aunque sea una pequeña pizca de que el mundo a girado por eones y muchas cosas han pasado a lo largo de el, asi como en la moda las cosas vuelven tambien sucede con la cultura hay reconexion con cosas del pasado y de una forma u otra regresan en tiempo modernos adaptandose, rechazarlo no lleva a nada bueno, por el contrario estudiarlo nos puede dar algo para ser mejores en el paso del tiempo.
Decided to also show the drawing process since I had a blast figuring out all the brushes and textures and such in Procreate. You can also see I started out with a red color scheme (since Nefertari's armor claws are described as being blood red crystals in the books I wanted to go with a dark red armor, but when I did the wings and got started on the skin with the blue-ish and purple hues I realised purple would be a better match. I'm also aware she officially has feathered wings, not leathery, but I figured since she seemed to be suffering whilst inside the eye and not being allowed to do her thing kill kill kill kill by Iskandar, and the fact he mentioned seeing feathers fall from her due to her 'condition' I decided to rake that a step further and just make it look as though she's lost her feathers entirely, hence why there's the last couple tied to her spear, to serve as a reminder of what she used to be. You can also 200% see me struggling with the damn armour, and the 25 reference images I had to try and capture the vibe I envisioned for this piece
I know I've been awa for a little while, but it's been a hectic couple of weeks. Did finish Galaxy In Flames, Flight of the Eisenstein, Conrad Kurze's Primarch novel, and the first NL book Soul Hunter, so I've definitely not been idle in the warhammer department lol. Anyways, while travelling I did some drawing, trying to practice on my tablet in the attempt of getting the hang of digital drawing. Still quite new to it, can probs count the number of digital drawings I've made on two hands, but I'm pretty happy with the result.
