god it's so. the backstory flashbacks instantly say so much about elmer's character and the pcs. elmer being gruff and short spoken but so deeply kind, so willing to adopt the misfits who have been abandoned by the city and found their way to his arcade. the first thing he says to atom being 'i gave you feelings.' and!!! the things the players did with the flashbacks!!!!! "slug puts so much effort into being bigger and tougher than all the things she's afraid of, but this is kind of unexpected and pretty kind, so it's disarming, so for a moment she drops the act and looks less like a street tough and more like a kid play acting one"........ "nobody's ever given aux time and space and a task-- he's had so much energy, and just leaving him in front of this and saying 'this is a problem you figure it out', aux is able to focus his energy. he kneels down next to the machine and starts tinkering"......... "there is a pain and i cannot make it go away, but there is also a warmth and a joy"

emily saying that everyone gets on her ass for being mean to murph but murph loves being razzed and look how sheepish he gets when she's nice to him really made me laugh. caldwell and jake being like "he's fidgeting!! he's sheepish!!"

when they’re describing the arcade, murph says it’s getting late in the day and that they have a bunch of people who they let crash at the arcade if they don’t have anywhere else to go, and they start joking about all the beanbags they have set up around for people to sleep in. and then you realize that both aux and slug were people who lived on the streets and were given a second chance by being allowed to move into the arcade……… hough
