Angst, requested by @hanniebeesworld, request me here
The night air is cold against your cheeks. The streets below you have long quieted down. Itâs a Tuesday night, no surprise there. You look out at the night sky, not even a star to see there. Everything is heavy, the air, your shoulders, your eyes, your heart. You sigh, taking another sip of the sharp alcohol in your mug. Pleasant isnât a word youâd use to describe the taste, though the burn is welcome right now. Anything to take the edge off for just a second.Â
our youth
We think we are young, dumb and free
But it is alcohol fooling with us.
Our bodies are driven by music,
and Our Minds conducted by lust.
Two bodies are longing one for another
These two became one.
The light blindfolded your eyes
The darkness swallowed your body
And all you can see are the most beautiful curvesÂ
lips and white teeth
Smiles on their faces.Â
- Our youth
I decided to post this after some prompting from a friend. It has no title, and I donât plan to continue it at all. It sits at 707 words, which makes me reaaalllly want to add 30 more words for various reason. >_>
She was just a lady.
At least, thatâs what I told myself.
You see, itâs hard go about with eyes on the backs of everyoneâs heads.
I mean. Theyâre not real. Not really.
Thatâs what they tell me.
(Thatâs what I tell myself, at least.)
But who knows? Their eyes. They watch.
Me?
Just a boy. Living life, best he can.
Itâs hard. Being young. Being homeless.
They donât respect you.
They donât listen to you.
They mock you.
They watch you.
I think the eyes would be more bearable if there was some way to protect myself.
(Thatâs what I tell myself, at least.)
At least then I could find some way to stop myself from fighting the urge to run away every time someone came near me.
I was told that I needed to get help. To go to a âcenterâ.
They lie to me.
Theyâre all liars.
Thieving liars.
Hate me.
Want me dead.
Kill me.
Instead. I take deep breaths.
And I walk past them.
And sometimes they give me a dollar.
Which is nice.
I can use that to buy something to eat.
There was this man once.
He gave me food.
He didnât ask questions.
He was old. Homeless, like me. But he always would give me something.
I felt bad for taking it from him.
But he kept giving it to me. And if I didnât eat it, he would just sit there, waiting until I did.
He sat on a plastic poncho to keep the wet ground from getting into his clothes. He had a box of stuff next to him. Any spare clothing he had, any food he wanted to keep, whatever possessions the man was able to keep.
But he never smiled. But he never frowned.
He was the kindest, most honest man I ever knew.
He never turned his back on me, showed me the ugly eyes on the back of his head. He would watch me. He would give me food. And if it was raining, he would let me stay under his poncho to stay dry.
He died.
They all do, eventually.
I wonder when Iâll die.
I wonder who will kill me.
Will it be the ladies that pass me on the street? Smiling with their faces, but sending glares of skyscraping hatred?
They lie.
They claim to care about me, claim to want to see me turn into a nurtured, well developed man.
But then, they turn their backs and show their true selves.
Hatred. Greed. Jealousy.
I think the back of someoneâs head is the ugliest face there is.
It reveals all the lies that have been told, reveals all the hatred welled within.
And worst of all, it has started to whisper to me.
They say the cruelest of things.
I can handle being wished to die, being wished to not exist.
After all, I wish I was dead anyway.
But Iâm still here, so thatâs worth something.
(Thatâs what I tell myself, at least.)
But the things they sayâŚ
How they hope my parents never come back, how the old man that would feed me died because of me, how I deserve less than an animal because at least those can be eatenâŚ
I think theyâre true.
People tell me those things are just voices in my head, but they whisper those things to me too. As soon as they turn their heads, their thoughts are revealed, and they whisper all those ugly thingsâŚ
The alleyways house the homeless. The streets house the rich.
Thatâs how itâs divided in my head at least.
I want to go out into the streets, to see the fancy cars rushing by and the people that donât bother to see you, so they canât whisper anything.
But I want to be seen. I want to be noticed. I want to rush out into the street and scream, âI am here, I am alive, I am worth something.â
But all it would do is force everyone to stare at me with their fake faces.
And then they would turn away, everyone.
They would all face away from me, the backs of their head showing.
You canât see anyone in a box.
I like boxes.
When I was a little girl, my mama always told me that God had a plan for us all; that all of us were sent here for a reason. Now, either God is a massive jerk, or he just has a sick sense of humor. It's probably both, because there is no way that we would be in this situation if he wasnât. I say we, but thatâs just wishful thinking. I could possibly be the last one left. I havenât seen a living, breathing, human being for weeks now -- perhaps months. I donât know, I canât really keep track of time. It's sort of limitless now. We used to have clocks, and alarms to wake us from sleeping for too long, or for keeping us on schedule. But now... now there is nothing left to be late for -- no place to be at in a certain amount of time. Hell, the word "time" itself doesn't even exist anymore. My little brother, Jax used to play video games that glorified the zombie apocalypse. Human: the dumbest species of all, I swear. Thatâs probably why the majority of us are already dead. But if only the word âdeadâ meant what it used to. Life was so simple before: you lived, you died. No one had to worry about coming back and eating their entire family. They just went into a hole in the ground or were burned and their ashes scattered. The simplicity of it was beautiful. If only I appreciated it while I could.
