Pairing: Kaidan Alenko/F!Shepard Prompt: 19. 'Cuddling.. While someone’s sick'.

Not a couple I've given much attention to - thanks for the prompt! :D -----

“You know I always thought it would’ve been Reapers, or maybe a pack of Thresher Maws that finally took the great Commander Shepard down.” Kaidan remarks from the open doorway, smiling when Shepard lifts her head from her pillow just enough to glare over at him. Her bleary expression and bedhead really soften her attempts to look stern, however, and that just makes Kaidan’s smile grow wider. “Never thought she’d survive all that only to be defeated by a common cold.”

“I just need a little more rest.” Shepard replies, her sour expression showing just how annoyed she was at being bedridden, and he does feel a pang of sympathy for her; Shepard was never one to sit still for long, especially since she’d finally finished her physical therapy only a few weeks ago. “I’m sure I’ll be fine in a few hours..”

“Actually, according to Dr. Chakwas, you should feel better in a day or two.” Kaidan replies, the door sliding shut behind him as he steps further into the bedroom. “Assuming you actually take your medicine and get some rest.”

“I don’t need-” Shepard’s attempts to protest are cut off by a sudden coughing fit. Kaidan pauses beside the bed, his brow furrowing with concern, but Shepard just waves a hand at him, and then lets out a heavy sigh once the coughing finally subsides. “I should be helping with the restorations, not laid up in bed-”

“Shepard.” Kaidan interrupts, voice gentle but firm as he sits down on the edge of the bed, and Shepard sighs again at the pointed look that he’s giving her. “You’re not made of stone, sweetheart, and there’s nothing wrong with taking time for yourself when you need to.”

"It's called a what?" Garrus asks, blinking as Shepard pulls away from him just enough for their gazes to meet, and his brow plates furrow a little when Shepard chuckles as if he’d just made a joke.  Not his fault he was still learning about the odd customs of humans.

"An ‘Eskimo Kiss’." Shepard repeats before he leans forward, bumping his nose lightly against Garrus’ before nuzzling them together. The texture of the turian's carapace is a little rough against his skin but not uncomfortably so, and Garrus now looks more curious than confused by the gesture. “It’s just another way humans show affection.”

“I see..” Garrus replies, and the look in his eyes softens before he leans in towards Shepard this time, who shivers softly as Garrus brushes the length of his right mandible along Shepard’s jawline and down towards the crook of his neck, nuzzling his cheek against him as he does. “Some turians do this to show affection.”

“Probably feels, uh.. a lot different to turians..” Shepard says, his words breaking when Garrus nuzzles into his neck harder. The rough texture of his face plates create a surprisingly pleasurable friction against his skin, and it sends another small shiver down his back.

“Maybe,” Garrus hums between soft nuzzles, and eventually he pulls back to meet Shepard’s eyes once more. “Personally, I think I prefer the way a human feels.”

“I’ll bet you do,” Shepard grins, reaching both hands up to grasp the sides of Garrus’ angled face before he leans in, pressing their mouths together in a soft kiss that Garrus is quick to return.

Clawed hands find their way to Shepard’s waist, pulling him closer as the kiss breaks into a second one, and then a third, and they only pull apart long enough for Garrus to press one more quick Eskimo kiss to Shepard’s nose before their mouths meet once more.

“Told you he’d turn out to be a bad guy.” Garrus says, flashing Shepard a triumphant look as the man beside him just rolls his eyes. “The old mentor coming back, just to betray the hero before the climax? A classic in turian vids.”

“He should’ve faked his death first,” Shepard replies, turning his eyes back towards the screen to watch the dramatic display. Or, at least it was as dramatic as a betrayed hanar could physically appear. “Then it would’ve felt more like a human vid.”

“Nice to know some clichés transcended time and space even before First Contact,” Garrus says, eating a handful of the graxen from his bowl before he gestures towards the screen again. “Just you wait; the mentor will show up again soon to give some speech about how the villain is actually in the right.”

“If I didn’t know any better, Garrus, I’d say you’ve seen this vid before,” Shepard remarks in a playfully accusing tone, and Garrus just scoffs as Shepard takes a slow sip from the bottle of beer in his hands. “You’re right – the Blasto movies are probably just that predictable.”

“Always have been, always will be.” Garrus nods, narrowing his eyes as they watch a very one-sided firefight starting on screen, and Shepard briefly wonders who decided that none of the villain's henchmen would carry weapons. “But they’re.. What’s that old human expression? So bad you can’t look away?”

One of the rare pairings & prompts suggested by @omegastation, and I have to say I enjoyed this pairing way more than I thought I would~ :D

Kaidan’s never felt anything like this, never known anyone quite like Cora.

He feels her biotics rippling across his skin as her hands slide across his chest and down his stomach, sending soft shivers through his body and bathing the dark bedroom in a faint blue light. His energy thrums against hers, her touch drawing his own biotics to the surface and for a moment there’s a resistance as they push against one another, almost trying to repel on some internal combat instinct but then, slowly, their energies seem to melt into one.

She sighs, soft and breathless, and from where his hands rest against the curve of her hips he feels a tremble go through her beneath the pulse of her biotics. She’s so powerful, unlike any one Kaidan’s ever met except for maybe the Commander, and even if he hadn’t seen her in battle against the Reapers already he can physically feel that Cora’s stronger than him, stronger than any other biotic human he’s ever come across, but here in her arms he’s never felt so safe, so secure.

Closing his eyes, Kaidan leans into Cora’s touch to brush his lips against hers, so soft and almost hesitant on his part but she leans into it before he can pull away, and the kiss fills him with such a scorching heat that he can’t help but pull her closer.

He wants more of her, craves more of her as he deepens the kiss. Two different shades of blue energy swirl around them, biotics mingling and pulsing and her superior biotics should be drowning out his own but instead they’re still melding together almost as one and he feels it in his core, feels it ripple over every inch of his skin. It already makes him breathless and he just kisses her again and again, no longer caring where her biotics end and his begin.

His lips taste like a fruit smoothie against her own.

Fitting, considering that’s what they were both drinking, but when he leaned over to kiss her she tasted a stark contrast in the flavors; she’d chosen a  tangy, almost bitter fruit while Ryder had gone for the sweetest one they had available. The strawberry-like flavor of his clashes a little with the strong citrus taste of her own, but not unpleasantly at least.

In any case it makes her smile, the way he just shamelessly leans over to kiss her like that, uncaring of the fact that they were out in public, walking through the open corridors of the Nexus with Angaran fruit smoothies in hand. She’s not normally one for such open displays of affection but it’s just something new that Ryder brings out in her.

The sight of her smiling makes him smile too, his eyes lighting up so brightly and she feels that familiar flutter in her chest, relishes the warmth that spreads through her body. Damn, but she loved this man, and she loved all the little reminders of her affection that she constantly felt around him.

Ryder’s still looking at her, his eyes soft but still something expectant in that gaze, and Cora’s smile grows because she knows exactly what he wants to hear her say.

But she won’t admit defeat to him and his charms so easily.

“Your lips are purple.” is what she says instead and Ryder blinks, tongue coming out to lick at his fruit-stained mouth and Cora’s eyes track the movement – his tongue is purple now too – and Cora laughs as she wonders if she’s in a similar state, walking alongside the man she loves with blue lips and not an apparent care in the world.

She doesn’t know what to say that could possibly make him feel any better.

Cora doesn’t even fully know how he might be feeling right now. She only knows that he’s torn; on one hand, his mother was still alive. Sick, but alive. But on the other hand she knows he feels betrayed by their father, who not only disregarded their mother’s final wishes but also kept her survival from his own children.

He had his reasons for this, a part of her wants to say, but it seemed like Alec always had his reasons for doing the extreme things that he did, and this? Family matter or not, this just crossed a line even to her outside perspective. There was no reason for him to have told her about this, despite being her mentor, but to not tell his children? Especially after seeing how hard they’d taken their mother’s apparent death?

Sara was handling the discovery of their mother's secret fate far better than Scott was. Or, at the very least, she was better at keeping her emotions hidden and in control, unlike her brother, whose emotions were as open and easy to read as ever.

Scott had been in a state all day. At first he’d been ecstatic to learn that Ellen was still alive, but then the shock of it had apparently hit, and he’d been alternating between feeling overjoyed and feeling completely heartbroken by their father’s actions.

He’s quiet right now. He’s barely spoken a word in the past hour, just stared blankly in front of him, and Cora feels her heart break a little more each time she sees another tear roll down the side of his cheek. He doesn’t brush them away, doesn’t acknowledge them at all aside from the occasional sniffle, but he does lean into her touch whenever she finally reaches over to gently brush the tears from his face.

“Why would he..?” Scott starts to say, not for the first time, before his words just trail off into a heavy sigh, and Cora has no time to speak before he leans over, pressing his forehead into the crook of her neck and letting out a deep, shuddery breath.

Cora says nothing, just wraps her arms around Scott’s trembling form as she presses a few light kisses to his tear-stained cheeks, and Scott shakes in her arms as she wonders again what she could possibly do to make this feel any better for him.

And if this was all she could do, then she’d sit here as long as he needed her to.

He wakes up to an empty bed, but the aroma of coffee wafting through the air is quick to assure him that his better half is still nearby.

Scott sits up with a soft grunt, taking a moment to stretch his arms back over his head before he slips out from beneath the warmth of the comforter to look around for the clothes he’d discarded the night before. He finds his boxers and pants soon enough but his shirt is nowhere to be seen, though Scott already has a good idea of where it is.

He takes the time to pull his boxers on before leaving the bedroom (no need to repeat the ‘Liam’s surprise visit’ incident anytime soon) to cross the threshold of his Nexus apartment, and sure enough he finds Cora in the kitchen area, wearing his t-shirt and sipping at a fresh cup of coffee. Another steaming mug sits on the counter, and Scott knows it’s already prepared just the way he likes it.

“What a sight to wake up to,” Scott says, stepping around the kitchen counter and smiling when Cora looks up from the data pad she was reading. “Morning, babe.”

“Good morning, sweetheart,” Cora replies with a warm smile of her own, leaning over to press a kiss to his lips as he retrieves his mug. She tastes like sugar. “Sleep well?”

It hurts to see Liara like this, sitting on the edge of her bed with tears streaming down her cheeks, and so full of anger and heartbreak that she can’t even put her whirlwind of thoughts into words. There’s a comfort, a small and terrible comfort, in the fact that Shepard knows exactly what she’s going through right now, and empathy could be a necessity to some, but it still only went so far when it came to easing the pain of others.

He stands in front of her silently, letting her collect her thoughts and catch her breath after her harsh sobs had stolen them from her, but his guilt grows along with the heavy silence between them. They’ve gone through so much already, and he thought they were prepared to face the familiar horror of the Reapers once they arrived on Thessia, but they weren’t prepared for the truths that the beacon told them, the truths and information that were ripped from their hands by Cerberus only minutes later.

They weren’t prepared to be stuck standing there, feeling so utterly powerless and defeated, as they watched another wave of Reapers come down and tear into Thessia, destroying citizens and cities that had stood proud for centuries.
