molly is such a mylar lovechild thinking about her makes me feel crazy. like. orphaned child whose ability is finding people. whoever she wants. she pinpoints her target person on a map. which is literally what mohinder and sylar were doing together in montana. the entire reason sylar and mohinder met and had such a visceral storyline together is because of mohinder's fathers map. and the clashing ways both of them made use of it. (sylar hunted people down to harvest their powers, and mohinder tried to contact people to hopefully keep them safe) in fact. both of them have separate maps. (i know sylar's map was kind of forgotten later on, but i digress)
like. isnt that kind of insane. mohinder and sylar had a child that was the culmination of the trauma and hope they both experienced together and she represented the very experience that brought the two of them together and then apart and the writers had to squeeze matt in there so that people wouldnt make the very obvious connection

when he told Elle that he feels he doesn't need to be special when he's with her
when he told his mum that maybe he doesn't need to be some extraordinary person
when he tried to have a relationship (of sorts) with Elle and not be evil
what happened every time? his feelings got invalidated, or he even got punished/tricked for his troubles!!!
and that's just three instances that fit in one exact pattern. there is So much more. the way he tried for Chandra's approval. the way he clung to the concept of family immediately when it was offered to him (so to speak), rescuing Peter etc..
and as for missed opportunities to nurture good instincts / build on his need for connection (except like, nearly all of these), how about my Roman Empire: when he phoned Mohinder at the end of S1 because he was genuinely confused why he'd have a vision about blowing up the whole city, because he didn't want to just mindlessly destroy. and if Mohinder had only listened!! really listened!!! instead of *gestures* whatever the fuck that was. i mean, mistaking his confusion about the future for guilt towards past murders?? was he listening with barely half an ear or what. and then just telling him to turn himself in..... even without dialing the police (breaking the fragile moment entirely), that was already starting off as a desaster. and i just. i just. *tears out hair and screams*
