Nerve Wrapping Moments
Fatty myelin covers nerves' axons ensuring electrical signals pass along to their destination rapidly and effectively. This study in zebrafish, mice and human tissue reveals how the cells producing and wrapping the myelin – the oligodendrocytes – myelinate complex circuits by each proceeding at different rates making a flexible chain of myelin sheaths connected by cytoplasm (here the process is underway in a still from an electron microscopy reconstruction)
