Mayluaffyn dies, at the hands of her own mother, in a plot more than a century in the making. The older drow raises her child on the surface, trains her as a cleric in service to Eilistraee and when she's finally ready to walk her own path she sacrifices May to Lolth.
Seventeen years later May is resurrected in Baldur's Gate, friends, peers, even a shop keep from Waterdeep who'd grown to love her art pooling their resources to have her body retrieved and her fate reversed.
Pity about the tadpole and the absolutist plot that follows really.
