Day 21 of #30daysofbiking. The smell of fresh cut grass is in the air! It was a beautiful evening to take a ride. I headed towards downtown and passed the Rice County Veteran's Memorial and Rice County Courthouse. Memorial stones line the sidewalks in front of the memorial and honor veterans who have served in conflicts from the Civil War to the War in Afganistan. Our family visits the memorial every Memorial Day to find "Great Grandpa Teddy's" stone. He served in the navy in the 1940's. It is interesting to view the stones and talk about the different wars with my kids. We also watch Faribault's Memorial Day Parade, which is held downtown. Day 20 of #30daysofbiking. With lots of rain, this area just off the city bike trail in Faribault becomes a waterfall. It's one of my favorite spots because of the sounds and sights you can experience along this section of the trail. It is common to see and hear red wing blackbirds, morning doves, cardinals, chickadees, and more. What a beautiful day to ride on the Sakatah Singing Hills State Bike Trail! This 39 mile long paved trail connects Faribault to Mankato. Along the way, it passes through farmland and woodlands including Sakatah State Park. We like to park at Dairy Queen, just off Highway 60 in Faribault and bike on the trail to Shager Park on Cannon Lake. It's just under 3 miles to the park. There you will find a picnic shelter, swingset, and fishing pier. When we bike back to Dairy Queen, it's ice cream for everyone! Day 15 of #30daysofbiking In Wisconsin today! I borrowed a bike and road at one of my favorite places on this earth. I love it not just because it's a beautiful part of Wisconsin, but because of all the special people that I get to see when I come to visit. Day 10 of #30daysofbiking I have to admit, given the temperature outside, I wasn't feeling very motivated to get out and ride. I put on four layers, some gloves, and a hood under my helmet and headed out. It seems the sounds of the trail stand out so much more when now one is on them....a very refreshing ride. I spied this erratic along the city bike trail in Faribault.
