even   after   the   end   of   their   days   of   peace   ,    when   darkness   began   to   fester   ,    shadows   cast   by   a    peaceful    light   steadily   grew   .    all   she   did   was    chase   ,    reaching   ceaselessly   for   those   dearest   to   her      (      praying   that   they   would    wait   ,    that   her   desperate   light   could   reach   them   .      )      she’s   reached   the   end   now   ,    is   the   dawning   realisation   ,    a   chill   down   her   spine   as   she   reaches   the   graveyard    prays   it   will   not   be   their   resting   place   .    howling   wind   proves   deafening   as   she   wanders   through   the   canyons   ,    paths   marked   by   keyblades    countless    —      does   it   whisper   omens   in   waiting   ears   ?    each   step   is   plagued   by   misery    &&    sorrow   ,    mourning   settles   deep   in   her   heart      (      is   it   not   a   step   too   preemptive   ?    though   her   master   has   passed   in   her   absence   ,    she   cannot   afford   thoughts   to   stray   —      not   now   .    she   has   to   protect   them    .      )

she’s    stretched    thin    ,     focus    torn       ;     dust   stings   at   her   eyes   ,    catches   in   her   throat    ,     &&    she   wishes   for   nothing   more   than   to   be   back    home   ,    waking   to   gentle   morning   light   ,    knowing   that   all   is    right    .    she’s   long   since   grown   tired   of   chasing   ,    of   the   stinging   pain   in   her   lungs   ,    the   aching   of   her   soles   ,    muscles’   desperate   protests      (      of   the   shadows   she   sees   collecting   in   her   eyes   ,    shards   of   hope   flickering    &&    fading   .    can   she   really   save   them   ?      )      she’s   been   out   of   the   loop   so   long   ,    lost   in   both   place   and   purpose    —      &&    what   are   hers   ?    it   is   useless   ,    by   now   ,    to   keep   on   praying   that   she   will   find   them   in   time   ?    will   she   be   strong   enough   ,   when   eventually   the   time   comes   ?    was   she   ever   enough    ?

in    the    face    of    it    all    ,    master    aqua    refuses   to   back   down       ;     to   hesitate   ,    stop   fighting   for   even   a   moment   ,    is   to   condemn   them   to   their   deaths   .    barely   a   thought   spared   toward   herself   ,    toward   the   tightness   of   her   throat     /     the   pain   in   her   chest   —      it’s   not   important   ,    not   in   the   slightest      (      because    she    has    to   save   them   ,    an   endlessly   repeating   mantra   —      one   she   follows   ,    clinging   desperately   to   as   though   it’s   her  last   hope   .     she   hates   that   it   might   be   .      )

&&     despite   the    terror    ,     the    ensuing    battle    is    a    blur      ;     even   moments   after   ,    shrouded   in   an   eerie   darkness   ,    what   is   clear   in   her   mind   comes   in   fragments    .    clearly   does   she   recall   the   magic   humming   through   her   veins      (      &&    she   feels   it   still   ,    a   horrid    pressure   —      she   feels   moments   from   the   end   ,    as   though   she’ll   be   overcome   any   second   ,    as   though   she’ll    explode   .      )      eyes   squint   to   see   through   the   dust    &&    death    ;     she   finds   herself   in   the   shadow   of   the   pillar   of   rock   ,    raised   by   xehanort’s   hand   ,    faint   clashes   of   metal   yet   reaching   her   ears      (      terra   is   alive   !!!      )      relief   floods   her   ,    though   it   leaves   her   as    quickly   as   it   comes   ,    the   sight   of   ven’s   form   sprawled   across   the   rock   drawing   back   the   silent    scream    lodged   in   her   throat   —      the   sight   of   him   ,    frozen   ,    falling   ,    haunts   her   mind   ,    as   does   the   panic   that   gripped   her      (      it   has   not   yet   released   its   hold   .      )

she’s    lost    her    armour    along    the    way       ,     yet   she   cares   little   for   the   lack   of   protection   —      there   are   far   more   important   things   ,    after   all   .    she’s   on   her   feet   in   mere   moments   ,    &&    her   knees   hit   the   ground   far   too   abruptly   ,    gravel   scratching   at   her   skin   ,    hands   trembling   .    he’s   breathing    ,    though   each   one   seems   to   be   an   effort   ,    &&    she   could   cry    but   she   won’t   .    she   still   needs   to   be   strong   .    each   movement   is   warily   gentle   ,    slow    &&    steady   as   she   draws   him   close      (      he’s    freezing    cold    even   still   ,    shuddering   with   each   breath   .    her   brows   furrow   ,    &&    she   draws   him   yet   closer   .      )         ❛       ven   ?    ven   .       ❜         she   speaks   with   no   small   amount   of   urgency   ,    voice   firm    ;      though   careful   to   not   jostle   him   too   much   ,    she   is   insistent   ,    desperately   so   .

it’s    an    effort    to    bite    back    the    fear       that   threatens   to   slip   into   her   tone   ,    blink   back   tears   on   the   verge   of   falling   .    she   has   more   than   herself   to   think   about   ,    wary   gaze   cast   around   them      (      she   could   have   sworn   vanitas   was   near   —      it   is   a   relief   that   she   cannot   see   him   .      )      for   not   a   moment   can   she   relax   ,    let   down   her   guard    ;      she   would   risk   far   too   much   ,    risk   losing    everything    .    magic   finally   flows   from   her   fingertips   ,    curaga   a   familiar   warmth    ,    yet   tension   is   set   deep   in   her   form      (      doubts   bore   down   on   her   with   all   the   wild   ferocity   of   the   unversed     —      she   prays   that   she   is   enough   to   save   him   .    her   grip   tightens   regardless   .      )      her   words   are   a   desperate   plea   ,    barely   a   murmur   ,    yet   despite   the   howling   wind   she   can   hear   them    hopes   that   he   can   ,    too   .         ❛       ven   ,    can   you   hear   me   ?    you    need    to   wake   up   .       ❜         a   breath   ,    pained   .         ❛       please   ?       ❜

in    that    moment    ,     she   could    safely    say       that   she   would   give   anything   to   look   him   in   the   eyes   ,    hear   his   voice    &&    assure   him   that   all   is   well      (      aqua   is    here    with   him   .    that   won’t   change   ,    not   ever   .      )      her   insistent   murmurs   seem   to   rouse   him   ,    eyelids   flickering   ,    &&    her   breath   catches   in   her   throat    as   they   blink   open   ,    half   -   lidded    .    she   has   barely   a   moment   to   embrace   the   relief   before   she   realises   ,    notices   how    glassy    his   eyes   are   —      all   too   suddenly   she’s   brought   back   to   years   prior   ,    to   the   introduction   of   a   strange   blond   boy   into   the   land   of   departure   ,    eyes   hazy    &&    seeming   all   too   much   like   a    zombie      (      the   sight   is   just   as    chilling   .      )      his   voice   is   scratchy   ,    hoarse    ;      hearing   it   is   still   a   relief   ,    despite   the   way   he   poses   her   name   as   a   question   ,    as   though   wondering   if   she   is   truly   present   .    she   leans   closer   ,    shifts   her   hold   .         ❛       i’m   here   ,    ven   .    you’ll   be   alright   ,    i   promise   .       ❜         but   is   it   one   she   can   truly   uphold   ?

she    watches    ,     still    ,       as   haziness   turns   to   confusion   turns  to    concentration   .    it’s   strange   ,    uncharacteristic   ,    to   see   his   every   movement   so    sluggish     —      her   brows   furrow   as   his   do   ,    albeit   a   motion   borne   of   concern   .    despite   his   insistence   ,    the   determination   to   form   the   words   ,    choke   out   the   message   he   wishes   to   convey      (      &&    though   she   listens   ,    she   cannot   help   but    hurt   .    seeing   him   in   pain   brings   pain   in   turn   .      )      frown   deepens   at   his   words   ,    confusion   clear   in   her   expression   —      she   knows   of   the   chi   blade   ,    of   xehanort’s   desperate   desire   for   its   creation   ,    but   ven’s   message   is   far   too   vague    he   cannot   be   faulted   ,    not   in   this   state   .

a    breath    too    late    comes    the    realisation    ,       registering   as   his   breaths   stutter    &&    stagger      (      this   time   ,    she   cannot   hold   back   the   tears   .      )      she   holds   him   closer   to   her   chest   ,    feels   the   tremble   in   her   own   arms    prays   that   he   cannot   feel   it   ,    too   .         ❛       ven   —      ven   .    stay   with   me   ,    please   .       ❜         don’t   die    ,    come   the   desperate   wishes   ,    &&    aqua   can’t   quite   help   the   choked   sobs   that   bubble   from   her   throat   .    picturing   life   without   either   of   them   proves   impossible   ,    a   thought   that   invites   naught   but    fear      (      but   a   part   of   her    knows   .    she   can’t   save   him   .      )      he   draws   a   breath   strangely   deep   ,    &&    her   head   bows    —      she   doesn’t   want   him   to   see   her   like   this     /     she   doesn’t   want   to   be   far   from   him   .

his    apology    draws    rings    clear    in    her    ears    ,       draws   from   her   a   sound   closer   to   a    wail    ,     half   -   stifled   —      it   is   a   small   solace   that   he   likely    does   not   hear   it   .    she   couldn’t   hope   to   stop   her   shoulders   from   shaking   as   he   falls   limp   in   her   hold   ,    leans   down   to   rest   her   forehead   against   his   shoulder      (      she   hates   the   sight   of   him   so   pale   ,    the   absence   of   a   smile   brighter   than   sunlight    ;      her   sun   has   been   eclipsed   .      )

&&    to   nobody’s   surprise   ,    i’m   going   to   continue   !!!    sarah’s   writing    &&    portrayals   are   incredible   .    she   can   try   all   she   wants   to   convince   me   otherwise   but   unfortunately   it’s    Not    Happening   .    my   evidence   of   this   is   literally   her   entire   blog   .    look   at   all   that   excellent   content   !!    i’m   very   very   glad   that   she   helped   me   get   into   kh   because   not   only   have   i   had   so   much   fun   on   my   blogs   but   i’ve   met   so   many   amazing   people     (     like   you   ,    the   person   reading   this   ❤    )     you   can  really   tell   how   much   love    &&    care   sarah   has   for   her   muses   …    if   not   by   just   how   openly   she   loves   them   ,    by   the   quality   of    &&    effort   put   into   her   writing   ?    &&    it   pays   off   ,    because   she’s   an   absolutely   amazing   writer   ,    &&    the   amount   of   love   i   have   for   all   her   portrayals   cannot   be   described   !!

but   then   again   ,    i’m   bad   with   words   .
