I saw this on a person's page I follow. She lives in Florida. She was sharing a post on something else. But I learned about this artist and this painting in particular.

He says he likes to bring an element of poetry to his work. But in that the image of butterfly being transformation, the candle - light, ibises being of wisdom and writing and image of boy being self.

I wanted to pair it with a poem. Although I'm not a young boy lol I just loved the art work imagery and how I relate with a poem I did.

A Poet's Affirmations

I had all these words for you to hold

But they were meant for me

Instead the left on drunkin' nights

They left on days in search of something when feeling lowly

They were devoured in lustful dreams

They dissolved on hours and days aching for it to be noticed only for the wind to sweep it away

I don't regret the words that leave me, but know I need words for me

To hold me

Carry me

Soften my heart

And wrap it when it aches

Words that cheer me on when I cower and want to hide

Words that believe in me when I don't

Words when one leaves that I know I am still whole and enough

She was an artist, feminist, and proud chicana. She was a leader in her community. That made her a target. But she was so much more than the way she was taken from us.

I just wanted to help keep her name out there. She was amazing.

Natasha May Platt (@surfaceofbeauty) climbed three stories of scaffolding in the cold New York City air to paint something truly magical — and we are not over it.

Her latest mural, nestled in the courtyard of The Village West NYC, was inspired by the delicate beauty of pressed flowers. Natasha translated that softness into massive, translucent petals blooming across the wall proving that the most gentle concepts can make the boldest statements.
