The idea of riches was not a motivator for Julian, even when he was born and raised in a poor household. Valencia was not kind to his family when it came to finances and health. A part of his childhood is veiled in darkness, stemming from the death of his older sister. His mother turned to her Catholic faith while his father turned to lashing out, boiling over into Julianās teens when he was found to have been involved with another boy.
He was sixteen when he left home, turning to America and never looking back. NYC grew to be a place he could look on with more fondness, even if the path was rough at first. The taste of freedom was worth it, though, expressing himself through paintings, even if they were sprawled out on the side of buildings.
In a few years, he was within the artist circles, receiving commissions, making it into a small gallery all on his own. It was during this time in his life that he was able to meet Luis, a person he would grow to not only be a Muse but a close friend. If Luis had not already been in a bond with another artist, it would have been an easy match, but Luis was not blessed with good fortune in the end.
The artist he had bonded with was only there to use. Luis had given everything to him, most importantly his heart, only to be replaced by another Muse and left to face a damaged outlook on life at the betrayal and be reintroduced to mortality.
He lied to Julian over the latter, and the suicide that followed still weighs heavily on him to this day.
Julianās creativity has been consumed by hate, a growing need for revenge, pouring it into his artwork while he thinks of ways to try to end the artist responsible.
New York City is competitive from the top down. Itās not bad enough that artists have to fight for recognition, but now so do journalists who write about the struggles of those creative geniuses and the world they live in while dealing with their own battles. Zoe Marshall is unfortunately one of those poor souls whoās stuck between demanding bosses and less-than-welcoming artists who can either be tight-lipped or just plain rude. No one likes anyone to pry into their life, but thatās exactly what Zoeās job entails, and sheās dogmatic enough to do it well.
For many, she can come across as trying too hard. Sheāll try to cozy up to artists, gallery owners, and more by sending them gifts, pretending to know their struggles, but in actuality, Zoe is just trying to make ends meet and posing in this luxurious world she simply has no business being in, according to her bank account. Sheāll paint on a huge smile, do her homework, and pray that someone will take the bait, but most of those that do are quite callous and egotistical, ready to talk about themselves without taking a breath. Ironically, in those cases, she feels like sheās about to scream, having flashbacks to the time she was in high school with a side job in retail. She wants to slap a bitch, but all she can do is smile back.
In general, though, she loves her job and she loves the art business as a whole. Her main ambition lies in breaking her first major scoop that causes headlines around the country. She just needs that one break, and sheās taking no chances in the big bad world of NYC, making friends with anyone even if it means biting her tongue to their face while cursing them out when sheās alone.
When she was a child, her mother would groom her older sister Olivia as a pageant queen. Zoe admired her dearly, and every time she was dragged to one of the pageants to support her, Zoe would take the opportunity to pretend to be the commentator, interviewing all the other candidates behind the scenes. Olivia, though, was always the favorite child of the two, but things shifted as years went by.
While Zoe was in middle school, Olivia began to uncharacteristically act out. At first, their parents believed it was part of the rebellious phase every child goes through, but that was before she almost set fire to their home. Eventually, she was diagnosed with schizophrenia, and over the years, she fell off her medication, broke with the family, and began living on her own with her whereabouts unknown. Her behavior and diagnosis fractured the family, causing separation to their parents with their father leaving to fend for themselves. It makes her feel slightly guilty when people ask if sheās related to gallery owner Claudia Marshall and doesnāt correct them when they assume theyāre sisters, betraying the one that is her own flesh and blood.
Nowadays, the young journalist just craves a better life. She wants her mother to be proud of her and she wants to make good money, which can only be achieved by catching the eye of a reclusive artist to make a name for herself. She doesnāt mind having to dig for a good story, but she needs a starting point. Ā
Your museums are mausoleums. Why are you dying to be buried in one? Sebastian is an admirer of life, intrigued by its tenacity, its strength, its⦠undefined limitations. There are those who should be dead in the world, yet they walk around like small abominations, mocking God. As one of them, do you think thatās why heās an atheist? Considering heās the biggest abomination, the reasoning is there, but do you know why?
He is no Muse. He is not of the same kind that sometimes will hang in his gallery in NYC because heās curious. Unfortunate for them that the gift of immortality came at the price of pain, but the world underground wonāt mind the usage. His own slice of the black market would never ask the questions that they donāt want the answers to, especially when the Muses come in pieces on occasion.
Are you a psychologist? Then you donāt need to know about his childhood beyond to say that it was atypical. Heās always been creative, though, particularly when it comes to anatomy. He could have been a surgeon had he applied himself to a greater good, but the only good Sebastian is interested in is what is good for him.
Not too long ago, someone would have said otherwise. She was always so sentimental. Arenāt all Muses? The ones that have lived for thousands of years? So afraid of losing their immortality because death has never tempted them. She became his. He never became hers, not fully, only for the sake of a bond. He never needed her. She was his experiment, a means to slate a curiosity to a world he was walking into with the knowledge that he would own it one day.
What did she want to call the parasite growing inside of her? Donāt ask Sebastian. He only saw it in the same light as a doctor sees a bag of blood, his own blood. You should have seen the way she looked at him when he carved it out of her, the bond severed, his soul taken, her immortality revoked, screaming and screaming while her former artist internally fought to keep his ground, not willing to give into consequences that didnāt benefit him.
She was dying while he was thriving, taking her blood into his own veins, sustaining his conscious thought as whatever was left of his conscience was given to her to take when she bled out to die.
He cheated. He cheated Death. He cheated the Gods. He cheated his own child and the mother of it.

There arenāt any reliable sources when it comes to Miguelās origins beyond his Brazilian accent. You could believe him when he tells you Caesar was a fluffy (he means furry) or the next day you could listen to how the Egyptians built the pyramids (spoiler alert: aliens! very very nice aliens! I love them!). You will never get the truth out of Miguel Cardosa, but there is one thing that heās more than welcome to volunteer and that is the fact that heās a Muse. Because of his multiple and never-ending lies, though, not many believe him! That is until a jealous boyfriend or girlfriend or husband or wife or all of the above try to kill him and he remains standing. Immortality! A blessing!
The lack of historical evidence is perfect for a man that lives in the moment. Even the artists that he has been a muse for seem to be lost to history, which doesnāt bode well towards their success. It might have something to do with Miguel being a repeat offender when it comes to breaking his bonds. He doesnāt mean to. It happens when something new and shiny comes walking his way.
Understandably, he has created some problems over the many years heās been alive. One of these problems comes in the form of a gun cartel from his home country where his former artist was the daughter of the boss. They are still very, very mad! He canāt go back home!
Good thing being a Muse has never been taken seriously by this boy from Brazil. Heās been too busy cultivating the black market. Rumor has it that he started it. At the very least, he is responsible for bringing Muse blood onto the market, a quick fix for desperate artists that arenāt in a bond. It gives them a high similar to cocaine, but costs much more and arguably is more addictive.
