*Happy Chinese New Year - Year of the Pig*
Gung Hay Fat Choy!!! That's the traditional Cantonese greeting for Happy Chinese New Year! I'm not ethnically Chinese, but have been immersed in Chinese culture for decades now through my kung fu training, so I follow all the new year traditions! I've already blogged extensively on such customs...like I've already washed my hair before the new year (never wash your hair on CNY as it will "wash" away your luck for the new year) & ate noodles (for long life & longevity)!
Another custom I find quite easy to follow is the wearing of new red clothes on CNY...of course for prosperity & good luck! Red is very much *THE* color of Chinese New Year! For this year, I got this GREAT jacket that I'm just so in love with! It's a combination of my love of Chinese culture, my propensity for varsity type, schoolgirl outfits (influenced by one of my favorite TV shows, Riverdale) & if you look closely...the back of my jacket has a character from one of my favorite Disney movies...Mushu of Mulan! Hahaha! Definitely having fun with my CNY outfit this year :)
For extra fun & good luck, I got this super cute Chinese lion doll from my husband! I actually perform Chinese lion dancing, so this stuffed animal is really extra special! I'm really looking forward to this week with other CNY celebrations & dinners. If you celebrate, hope you're having a great time with family & friends. If not & want to learn more, just Google for events in your area. If you're in Boston Chinatown on Sunday, Feb. 17th, I will be lion dancing through these very streets, so maybe you'll get a glimpse of me, hahaha!
