#mudoran magic

These are some very, very late photos of the travel altars we made for Pagan Spirit Gathering! We made them for the three main deities we work with (The Signless, Dionysus, and Demise), but we also felt pulled to make them for the Golden Goddesses, so we did! I’ll list off what’s in each tin here!

The Signless

Sword: Name a kind of magic you have that gives you an “edge.”

While I haven't done any direct sex/kink magic, I definitely feel magick coursing through me when I'm channeling my sexuality/sensuality. So doing drag, burlesque, being with my play partners, etc. That also really connects to my work with Lord Dionysus, being in the whole performing-arts-gender-fuckery-sex domain!

A local dungeon was doing a class on kink magick for the spooky season, but they're very much a Do Not Go There dungeon/infamous in the community. Which is a shame, because I've been having a super hard time finding actual resources on kink magick.

The Triforce: What wish would you make if you could have any wish granted, and is it a wise wish to make?

I would wish to successfully get my degree and my dream job! I'm applying for a BFA in Costume Design (need to work on my portfolio next week), and it would be the best thing in the world to actually get to do that! (And maybe get nominated for a Tony 👀👀👀) I feel like it's pretty wise as I feel like that's what I want to do in life, but if the universe has other plans for me, I'm not sure what they are :p

Dungeon Boss: What has been your greatest challenge to overcome in your Craft?

This has less to do with my actual workings and more to do with myself, but getting over my emotional baggage and trauma has been a roadblock in a lot of my Craft. I get spiritual blockages due to it, such as the Samhain ritual this year, when I tried to use a spirit board, but was (and still am) going through so much that I couldn't communicate. I want to do some Shadow Work, especially with the Full Moon ritual I'm leading next month!

Greetings. It's my first time posting on this blog, so it's nice to meet you all.

The purpose of this post is to detail my behind-the-scenes effort to archive as many of the lost Hyrulean Paganism/Magic blogs and posts as possible. For those unaware, in the mid-2010s, there was a "renaissance" of The Legend of Zelda Pop Culture Pagan posts and blogs. The pantheon/practice went by many names, such as Mudoran Magic, Hyrulean/Hylian Magic, Hyrulean Paganism, etc. As a result, efforts to find remaining content can be complicated, especially when perusing tags. Different phrases were used for various blogs and posts, sometimes leading to dead ends.

Thankfully, there are some leads. @lostwoodstarryskies made a list of blogs, both old and new, here. This is a good start and helps navigate search engines such as Google more efficiently. Additionally, this post by the now-defunct @/hylianshrinemaiden (more on her later) lists additional blogs.

Now, to Twili (hylianshrinemaiden). While we (the Magic Collective) weren't in the same Pop Culture Pagan circles at the same time, it's clear she was a pillar in the community. It's a shame that she and other active members deleted their blogs, as Tumblr's archival system is half-functional at best. There is some hope of recovering her blog, however. @hyrulian-legends reblogged this post from her, listing various spells and resources from her. While it's not entirely clear if this list is her complete work, it at least gives names to her work. Through this list, I've had some luck on Google, and a surviving reblog of her Minish Cap Glamour was found here. I'm not sure what else is available, as I became un-frontstuck when I was planning on searching further. (Such is the way of systems.)

I plan on delving further into what remains, and I'm very grateful to the remaining community members for their advice on where to look. Many thanks, in particular, to @knightofhylia, @knightofhylia-sageofthetriforce, @wind-sage-serin, and @lostwoodstarryskies. Additionally, those in the Community of Hyrulean Faiths Discord server provide resources.

There remain some posts in the Collective's communal Likes that we plan on sharing upon adding to our Grimoire document, so expect those somewhere down the line. In the meantime, I'll continue my search and bring updates whenever possible.

These gates from Skyward Sword are pretty interesting in terms of potential in-game lore, with plenty of elements to theorize with. Obviously, the gates are very visually interesting, they bear the symbols of the goddesses Din, Nayru, and Farore, as well as the Triforce in its center. The depiction of the Triforce with rays coming out of it is reminiscent to the Door of Time in Ocarina of Time, too. Though shaped like a gear, it is interesting to me that it bears twelve cogs, perhaps reminiscent of the numbers on a clock, or months of the year? There are also markings that seem to vaguely resemble the text on the front of a certain special book from A Link to the Past... I digress. Let's talk about using these gates in magical practice.

The first thing that comes to mind is, well, time. Perhaps using this as a focal point when meditating during inner work would help you "go back," so to speak, to discover or confront things that happened in your past that impacts you today. Or perhaps to remember something you feel you've forgotten, or to meet and comfort your child self. You might try banishing someone or something to be only in your past by using the Gate of Time... For me, symbolism in magic is pretty important, but your experiences could differ completely. Maybe you are more inclined to use the Gate as a symbol.

The gate is at least visually connected to the goddesses, as discussed previously. Not only are their symbols on it, but the gates we see are activated by Hylia's power, first by Zelda in Lanayru and then by Link with the empowered goddess sword (tempered in Sacred Flames associated with the Three Golden Goddesses) in the Sealed Temple. In this way, it is sort of a symbol of these four goddesses' cooperation, but also of the journeys taken by Link and Zelda in the events of Skyward Sword. The Gate of Time in the Sealed temple is the means by which the Hero of Skies is, at last, able to reunite with the Spirit Maiden. It is instrumental in him fulfilling his destiny--in this way, the gate is a symbol not only of Time and the Goddess Hylia herself, but perhaps also of Fate.

While it would be pretty amazing to have a life-size mural or a sculpture of a Gate, most of us would probably have an easier time using visualization or drawing out the symbols to utilize the Gate of Time in our practice. If you have access to a printer, you may be able to print and cut out a small Gate for your uses.

If any of you keep up with my main (@sinfulauthor), you may have noticed this post, along with my new pinned post. In short, I've come to the realization (after burying the thought of it for many years) that we are a Collective.

Now, how does this impact this blog and my craft?

To start off, this blog's content will remain the same. It will still primarily act as an e-grimoire with some additional posts, but the people posting what content will change. Specifically, these people:

-Alex (they/them), the host (hi!). I'll generally do most of the talking/posting. Works with The Signless/Sufferer and Dionysus. ANP that the IRL coven knows. (I'm not open with them about being a Collective just yet.)

-Vaati (he/him), who works with Demise and focuses on divination. Writes solely in cursive and gets VERY frustrated when grimoire notes are in standard print.

-Ghira (he/him), who works with Demise closer than Vaati for Obvious Reasons™️. (Though he generally doesn't do any actual spellwork, just offerings, worship, and altar setup.)

-Karkat (he/they) on occasion, solely because Signless HAS shown himself to him and is very much a Dad™️.

-Toko (she/her) has not yet "awakened." She was a former kin heavily associated with our craft. Taking bets on her being a spellcrafter/writer.

So, now that the roll call is done, onto some other stuff regarding plurality and paganism, the introspection the title mentions. (This will be below the cut as it's not as integral to the "functioning" of this blog.)
