Natural Makeup, Love or Hate ?
We are the generation of the heavy contour, brightly coloured big eye makeups with a sharp precise wing of eyeliner, big brows but defined of course, then to top it off a big set of lashes and a defined plump looking lip.
But has it gone to far ? What happened to the no makeup makeup look ? Is it still a thing ? Are these the only looks people think of when someone says makeup artist today ?
In this Blog i am going to go back in time to see where it all changed and share my opinion on the sharp heavy Kimmy K look that everyone raves about.
It goes without saying that Kim Kardashian was one of the first people to bring this creation out into the open, her makeup artist being Mario Dedivanovic who created the look. Kimmy K is such a massive role model to boys and girls of all ages and many would look to her for inspiration in hair, makeup and fashion. So when this look came out everyone was eager to try it and by surprise it took to the nation by storm. I've seen it all from ladies in there 90′s to young girls the age of 4 and of course the boys/ men that are absolutely smashing the makeup world all performing tutorials of the heavy contour! It goes without saying that any makeup or hair is a work of art, hence why i like to call it hair and makeup artistry though is this makeup covering up the natural beauty’s of the world.
Me personally am a big natural makeup fan, on a day-to-day basis my makeup routine consists of concealer under my eyes and in any other areas i need it dependant on the day. I usually have my lashes done either LVL of lash extensions and i regularly have my eyebrows waxed and tinted. I will wear some form of clear lip balm on my lips and occasionally some fake tan if I'm looking a bit pasty. When I'm going out or a special occasion, i tend to wear my bobbi brown tinted moisturizer which is extremely sheer coverage and gives the most amazing glow, ill then wear bronzer to define my cheekbones and occasionally wear a red lip ( i love a red lip) though matte of course, also the red has to be a blue red not an orange-red as the warm colours do nothing for my skin tone. But that is about as far as my makeup goes, considering I'm a makeup artist i don't push the boat out with my face. I know that my face does not suit the heavy contour look, i often think the more makeup i wear the worse i look and that's something I've discovered whilst experimenting over the years though that does not mean to say it looks bad on others.
On others i love to get the perfect skin look ( obviously ) but what i mean when i say that is skin that looks naturally good, but i do go to clients preference as some want the heavy makeup look, i have clients say they like to feel like they have makeup on because that's when they feel they are ready. I believe that the heavy contour look looks brilliant on camera though when i see it face to face in my opinion i believe it's to heavy and this and i wonder what that person actually looks like under all that makeup. If I'm thinking it other people must think it also.
At the end of the day it all comes down to the look your client is going for and what they ask for, you can always recommend but if that's how they feel comfortable you have to go with that.
