I keep bringing it up, but I hate how people purposefully and continue to take Goose's words out of context to continue being being transphobic. Between "I'm not transphobic but..." and "Goose said we could use he/him pronouns!" it never serves to be less annoying.
Yes, she said you could use he/him to refer to Jax. It's very clear she meant that in a discussion-esque manner. When discussing Jax use either because Jax is using those pronouns for most of the show, so it's fine to refer to him as such when discussing the series.
She did not mean, "Use he/him pronouns still because Jax being a manly man's man who is still a man is a valid reading of a story about a repressed trans woman killing herself."
The lengths people go in the TADC fandom to be so underlyingly transphobic can feel so shitty because they refuse to let go of the person who hated being a man so much and was so terrified of being a woman, that she killed herself, and then they go around acting like, "Actually if you are trans you shouldn't transition because you're hotter as a boy <3" like fuck off for real. Learn to love a trans character, you'd be rightfully chewed out for depicting a character who was trans from the first scene as their assigned gender at birth, just because Jax didn't come out until the end doesn't give you a pass to continue being transphobic.
Like I do genuinely think its one thing to draw pre-finale Jax as depicted in the series, I think its an entirely different ball park to just say, "he's a man in my manly man au."
Do what you want, sure, I'll still call it transphobic because there's nothing more reductive about engaging in a piece of queer media by making an AU where all the characters are nice cishets.
Honestly think it's very unfortunate that Jax is an extremely tragic and broken character but lately people have been focusing mainly on the trans part (I'm guilty of this one too) and debating over what labels should be allowed to be interpreted from the story or not. I can barely see anyone exploring the DV and homelessness they faced.
It's rare we get to see a trans character whose main plot isn't just being trans, whose struggles come from somewhere else mainly. We're only allowed to exist as trans and can never separate our identity and hardships from it nor focus on a specific part of them isolated from it and that feels fucking exhausting.

I could probably compile an entire document of every horrid thing people's favorite blorbos have done over the history of animation and show you exactly how Jax is held to an impossibly high standard in the bad shit he does compared to similar characters who do "redemptions" and get off scott free in the eyes of a fandom.
It's genuinely interesting how the more fantastical your bad actions are (like Caine) the more you don't really have to do anything at all despite actually partaking in active gleeful torture of others. But because those actions are less recognizable as real compared to Jax being a bully, which lands with a lot more people, no one wanted to hold Caine accountable from a fandom perspective even when he went off the deep end. I'm not saying Caine is just evil blanket statement. Just saying its interesting how Caine is unfeasibly worse than Jax in every way possible, but because his actions are more fantastical people yet worse he isn't dissected in the same way people absolutely hate Jax with an undying passion to the point that the bitch fucking died and people think we should continue to run over her corpse.

Β I was bored saw many comments about how Jax being trans "came out of nowhere", so I wanted to make this post proving the opposite.
Episode 5:
During the bar scene Jax laughs and makes a comment about Zooble being a tattoo artist and a bartender, two queer stereotyped jobs. Thing is, this is pretty insider knowledge since these stereotypes are not as widely known in mainstream cis-het spaces.
When Jax called his tail as the 'pinnacle of masculinity', he finds out it's missing.
And more importantly, there's the Jax maid scene.
First he acted infurated, but as he shifted attention to other stuff, he acted quite comfortable in it.
There's the fact that while Evil Ragatha told Ragatha nobody loved her, Evil Jax told Jax he looked good in the maid outfit, being a possible reflection of his internal and repressed thoughts.
Episode 6:
Jax, when pushed by Pomni, says "you think I'm a misunderstood chicken fetus in an egg that is waiting to be cracked open!", and for those who don't know, egg is trans slang for someone who is trans but is not conscious about it, and cracking open is realizing it.
Episode 7:
Jax is the only who didn't want to wear a swimsuit and expose his body, something common in people with dysphoria
He also talked about Zooble's ability to change their own body with a grain of envy.
One of the most explicit details is Jax's room, which looks like that of a small girl, and since apparently the characters can't design their rooms, it could be based on Jax's mind.
Episode 9:
There's the song "isn't she lovely?", which talks about the birth of a woman, with Jax moments playing at the same time. Really explicit.
