An example of the iterative process. Taking a break from my Rift game, I’m transferring my 2009 RPG Maker XP project M.S. to RPG Maker MV, where I can use parallax maps (images) as my map layouts without having to break them up into tilesets. This means it’s easier and quicker to iterate. Notice how simply changing the lighting to get a better feel for the right nighttime mood, makes all the difference. The boring bright wash lighting on most of the maps is...boring. And ugly. All this art is temporary, but each iterative pass makes it even less temporary. And because of RPG Maker MV, it’s quicker and simpler to do iterative passes. At this stage it’s about color, about getting the right FEEL, even if the art itself is low quality. Again it’s about getting ever closer to “oh, I see what he was TRYING to do.” Going from 640x480 resolution to 1280x720 makes it way easier, too. Some of the level areas that you can walk behind, are cut out here. That’s temporary, too.
