Ohhhh! I am tingling with excitement! One of my favorite things in this world is to save money. I especially love saving money on things that we use anyway. Such as electricity for example. It’s a bill that you just can’t get away from in our modern age but my ethos is why spend more than you have to for the exact same thing. So, tomorrow we are getting a new meter installed ( for free) that will measure night time use and day time use separately. Electricity used at night is about half the price of day time use. I’ve been furiously reading the instructions to our dishwasher and washing machine to delay their start times, figuring out timers and the electric car when we get it will be on a timer too. Oh and the tarrif that am on uses only renewable energy. I can be richer and more smug ( apologies save the planet). I can safely say that I think I aged about 2 decades in the last few days. I am not a natural IT person in the least and the computer coup let me know that. I rang my broadband provider today. We’re on a promotional rate at the moment and part the reduction was up after 6 months which was in December. I rang them up and simply asked as a gesture of good will and in the name of developing good customer service would they reinstate the €5 discount. Well low and behold it worked!!!! It’s not much but for the sake of a quick (free) phone call we get same service for less. Lessons learned- it’s always worth it to at least as the question 😊 I’m not sure if I would have made the call if I wasn’t doing The Year if Less But Better. It is with great sadness that I must announce the passing of my lovely bike to a new owner. She had great tenacity and lived life to the fullest. However, in The Year of Less But Better I have to make some hard decisions as to what will get me to my goal. Unfortunately, this darling of mine didn’t make the cut. In the immortal words of Paula Pant ‘you can have anything that you want and not everything’. Sob. This year I have to really evaluate everything my life and move forward with what is best for my family and our happy future. This year we need to be as prudent as possible with expenses due to it being a NO Spend Year. By selling her we will be saving on road tax, servicing, and insurance. My beloved motorbike will also play her part by helping us to embrace minimalism and reducing the number of possessions that we have. Also, the money gained from her loss will be put toward the fully electric car that we are getting this year. That is a story of another day which I will be filling you in on soon. Even as she leaves us she is doing me proud and she will live on in the spirit in the electric car. We had good innings and made some great memories. I heard this stat on an interview once. I can’t remember who said it but it really floored me. It was this quote that helped to put in motion the plan to step back from the 9-5. Whatever choices I make I can never turn time backwards. That’s why this year is so important. If I stick to no spending and embrace minimalism. We can lessen the financial pressures and live a full family life. My noisy little cherubs drive me up the wall sometimes and I drive them mad too, particularly with this year of Less But Better.
