It was built out of the USSR’s ambitions, outlived the cold war, it witnessed the democratisation and de-militarisation of the majority of the European continent, only to be engulfed in flames ignited by a madman’s absurdity.
It survived an era of aggression, only to be destroyed in another.
It’s one of a kind, and as an aviation enthusiast, the destruction of AN-225 Mriya hurts me to no end. There are so many horrible things that are happening all across the Ukrainian soil as of now, my heart goes out to all those who are so brave and fighting against Kremlin aggression, and I hope it would soon be over.
You know that feeling when you're living through hell, when every bit of news is worse than previous one, there's always this last straw that kills you. For me it was the destruction of Mriya. No one had died, but it was the symbolic purpose of this entire war - destruction in the name of destruction, just pure hatred and desire to wipe out of existence everything on their way. And Mriya, this giant iron bird, the one of a kind piece of machinery is now gone because of the bastards who decided Ukraine is theirs to torture because it just dares to exist. To have its own history and culture, to be a country on its own, and not just a stupid, stubborn scrap of land that refuses to acknowledge its "rightful owner".
Her name means "a dream", by the way. And dreams can't be killed.
